Re: Cougar Replacement

I have an 06 GTI (first year of MK5 model) as my daily driver and they're great cars. Lots of room, comfortable ride, and decent power. I've never used it for autox but it handles fairly well for a fwd box on wheels. Can't imagine it would be anywhere near as fun as my miata though. If you can get b...

Re: That explains everything – ZERO suspension travel

It looks like those shock mounts just aren't very well suited for use on a miata. If you plan to keep them you'll need to have the shocks shortened as others have mentioned. Just make sure you still have a long enough stroke for the spring rates you're using. My mounts are fairly similar to yours up...

Re: How Come We Don't Have More Formula Car Racers?

I've wondered that too. With so many people who drive trailered cars, it's a little surprising that more people don't drive purpose built race cars vs modified street cars. My only formula car experience is driving fsae cars and they're certainly faster and more fun to drive than any street car I've...

Re: Just Double Checking ... on a Corner Balanced car ...

Just remember that whenever you adjust the height on one corner of the car it's going to change every other corner in a somewhat predictable manor. When you raise the RF you know that you're also going to raise the LF and RR, and lower the LR. It takes some practice and forethought to get to the poi...

Re: Just Double Checking ... on a Corner Balanced car ...

A car that is properly corner balanced should be flat with the drivers weight in the car. Before setting the corner weights the car should be leveled and set at the ride height you want. Then raise one diagonal and lower the other to change the cross weights. Of course taking the drivers weight out ...

FYI
The 99-00 crate engine from Mazda Motorsports was $2200 with free shipping IIRC when I bought mine a few years ago. I've got about 20k miles on mine now with no problems.

76 100 octane pump fuel is simply 91 octane with added 114 octane Toluene ... according to a Turbo magazine octane booster test from a number of years ago. They had a chemical analysis done. I believe they said the 91 octane gasoline was basically 87 with added Toluene. So it would seem we're alway...

Re: Car Loan Scoring Question / FICO Auto Industry Option score

When I bought my GTI I didn't have any previous auto loans on my credit history. The VW finance guy said that I needed to have an auto loan with at least two years of on time payment history to qualify as having auto loan experience and to get the best rates. Don't know if he knew what he was talkin...

Re: Need Apartment Advice in South Bay Area

Thanks for posting that website, Tin. I found a few places on there that look like they might be good deals. I'd like to save as much money as I can, but I'm just worried that I'm going to cheap out and then end up regretting it later. I guess I've been living in low budget apartments near USC for t...

Re: Need Apartment Advice in South Bay Area

how do you feel about renting a room in a house? my house will have a vacant room as of late this month, and as soon as i get a replacement title from DMV, the MR2 in the garage will either get sold or donated, making more room around the house. I wouldn't mind living in a house with other people a...

Need Apartment Advice in South Bay Area

Alright, well I start work for ExxonMobil at their refinery on 190th st in Torrance in Aug, so I'm in the process of trying to figure out where I want to live. I'm just curious if any of you guys are familiar with the area and can give me some advice on where to look. I'm looking for a basic one bed...

I've made my own hollow 4130 bars with tubing and arm materials from Aircraft Spruce. You can make stiff bars without reheat-treating, but a more flexible bar will develop too much stress. Corner me at an event if you need more info. I can show you the math to pick tubing dimensions for various sti...

The race coverage wasn't that bad. The lack of pre-race coverage is a little annoying, but when they cut the post race interviews short for an infomercial I was pissed.

Can someone 'splain to me why there are the red lights and the end of the pit? They don't want the cars that pitted to re-enter the track until after the safety car and the cars following it have passed. It prevents the cars from flying down the pit exit and then trying to slot into the slow moving...
