AC leak diagnostic

My Bolt EV has a very slow AC leak my dealership can't seem to find even after they put dye in it two years ago. Can anybody recommend an independent shop that might be better at finding this? I'm in El Sereno, near Highland Park, Alhambra, South Pasadena. It's an R-1234YF system, and I've read the ...

Re: 2020 Schedule

Any chance of a post-Thanksgiving practice when our usual novice school is?
I'm actually in town this year.
Looks like I'll miss Nov 15th, though, hurt my hand putting in a transmission seal.

Saturday waitlist available?

Hey all, it's been a while... Is the waitlist option for Saturday gone? My weekend just opened up and I've signed up for Sunday, but I'd like to attend Saturday, too (need to relearn RWD in a V8!). Does it have anything to do with my annual SCCA registration being expired? I'll just be using weekend...

Re: fender rolling service or tool rental?

I'll be returning to autocross this Sunday, Oct 25th if anybody who previously offered to loan me a roller is attending.
I'm still on 245s, so there's probably no rush. Thanks!

Re: fender rolling service or tool rental?

No problem, I don't think it'll rub until I move to 275s or 315s, actually; so just planning for the future.
4th gens got moved to CAM-T this year, but I might be able to run CAM-C if I'm over 3300 lbs.

Re: fender rolling service or tool rental?

Thanks Bill! No rush if you can't make it this weekend, there's still some other issues to fix.
I'm pushing my plans for CAM back to April, meanwhile I'll be running HS on Sunday if you want to co-drive something that doesn't do well, period :)

fender rolling service or tool rental?

Can anybody recommend a fender rolling service around eastern Los Angeles / San Gabriel Valley or a place where I can rent a tool for it? I don't want to buy a specialized tool to only use once. Or is a baseball bat and heatgun good enough? It's only for the rear fenders on a 4th gen F-body, the car...

new electric class?

Sean F was talking to me on Sunday about some class changes for EVs in Fastrack, but I'm not seeing anything which affects my Chevy Bolt being in HS. Just Teslas. I'm looking at Jan and Feb Fastrack: https://www.scca.com/downloads/48584-2020-01-29-fastrack-solo-all-thru-feb/download If anything, Fie...

Re: Potential CoDrive Request, for a friend

Thanks Kurt, I managed to stay off the cones on my last run and good competing with you!
Probably sprayed two quarts of water at the radiator before each run so the climate control thought it was 75F.
I wish we had a garden hose in grid to spray faster :D

Re: Potential CoDrive Request, for a friend

Just signed up for Sunday in my HS Bolt LimpMode EV on nearly bald Hankook RS4s.
No sound, but heat is a problem...

Taking co-driver requests from anybody willing to bring extra ice and sprayer :)

Re: 4th gen (1993-2002) Camaro parts - CHEAP!

Thanks! I don't need another set of 16" wheels, was just commenting that I could use some spare lugnuts which are threaded and hold my 16" center-covers on. I just got new brake pads not long ago, but maybe having different compounds to try would be good. I'll probably be around Saturday a...

Re: 4th gen (1993-2002) Camaro parts - CHEAP!

Interested in the Haynes manual, trunk struts and maybe lugnuts.
Are the lugnuts open-ended and threaded on outside for plastic covers?
I love stock 16" wheels and big sidewalls for long distance drives :D

Re: GM OBD-II drive cycle help

Just put in another 50 miles (highway, offramps, onramps) and that didn't work, either. Started at just over 1/2 tank. I've put in over 180 at this point, actually; but I might've missed the 1/4-3/4 tank range on some tries since the fuel tank is V-shaped and the gauge gets thrown off by hills. It o...

GM OBD-II drive cycle help

I replaced a clogged AIR valve on the old gasmobile, cleared the code, and now I need to complete the OBD-II drive cycle for smog testing... Unfortunately, the drive cycle procedure is difficult to follow and seems like an accident waiting to happen: http://www.obdii.com/DRIVECYCLE.HTML Evap and EGR...

Re: Our March Event Is Up! March 2-3/2019

Just knowing which direction the course goes on a particular day would be helpful for those of us with unevenly worn tires before the event. Under dry conditions, I usually install my autocross wheels and "street" tires on the car a day or two in advance of an event so I can check things o...

Hopefully we find a venue that's not too hot in the summer. My Bolt was dropping into limp mode mid-run at El Toro.

Re: Planning ahead: got an HS seat available for the Fontana Pro?

Hi Steven, I was the only local HS driver at the Fontana Pro last year. HS turnout is sparse and sporadic, here; so you might have better luck in other classes. It's only my second year autocrossing and my car is probably not competitive, but I have a 2017 Chevy Bolt EV which is heavy but makes 266 ...

Re: 5 minutes between runs

I too have heat problems and could also benefit from the 5 minute rule.

Increasing the gaps between runs could reduce reruns due from downed cones and red flags; increasing overall event speed.

looking for a ride Aug 11/12

I broke a front wheel stud on the EV while rotating tires and my shop might not be able to get a replacement in time. So I might use this as an opportunity to try other cars. Everybody says "Miata", so my first choice is to try a Miata :) Second choice would be one of the twins, but I'm OK...
