Re: Alternate Sites?
I see San Diego is going to give the stadium at Lake Elsinore a shot. Do we know anything about that site?

Race Slick Installation
Hey, all I have a car down at a shop in Corona. I left him with a set of large race slicks to mount up if he could find a place. The guys up here in Ridgecrest hammer on trucks and off-roads, so not the people to be doing delicate race wheels. Kowalski would have known, but are there any true race t...

Re: Next event?
Checked their FB event page:
No mask, no entry
No spectators
Entry limit 50
No walk-in registration
And both days are full

Re: Next event?
Sac Chapter events are open to all SCCA, but their registration site seems not outsider friendly. My son is a member, so let me know if you hit a road-block.

Re: Next event?
Depending on how desperate you are, Sacramento chapter has a two day autox at Thunderhill weekend after next. They're accepting pre-entries, so probably a go. AAS is scheduled for a 2-day at Crows first weekend in June. If Buttonwillow is also open, maybe revisit the kart track event that was talked...

Re: Next event?
Are we planning on business as usual, or changing things up? Is there a plan in place or being developed for a "new" way of doing things? Maybe mandatory pre-reg and payment so no registration on site other than check-in. Driver's meeting by FM to car radios only. A policy on masks. A poli...

I'm surprised there's any question about it. Oversight comes to mind.

Re: fender rolling service or tool rental?
Okay. I can ship it if it ever gets that critical for you. Or I plan be at Glen Helen for a rallycross early April. Long drive down for me, so thanks for the "wet" offer, but I'll pass. Now when you get a CAM car running -- I'm kinda interested in CAM-C myself so might like to try a co-dri...

Re: fender rolling service or tool rental?
Eric if I can find where I stashed it, I'll bring you down a fender roller Sunday.
Or another time if it continues to look wet this weekend. This car doesn't do wet.

Re: Xtream Street (XS) Looks like....
But there is a requirement to be licensed and insured. I'm assuming licensed really means current registration. And registration requires smog. Is there some sort of obnoxious way to dodge all this stuff? Probably. But why should we have to...our rules should work for us, not make things difficult.

Re: Xtream Street (XS) Looks like....
Personally I think we should get away from the wink and nod aspects. Require a "street legal" class to have certain obvious equipment but not entertain the fiction of it being State of California legal which includes emissions etc. And if your car does not meet emissions, we shouldn't cont...

Re: Xtream Street (XS) Looks like....
The whole approach seems bogus. Given not only state requirements but federal requirements can you actually build such a car without winking at the rules?
Why introduce a rule set that can't legitimately be complied with?

Re: Testing E85
Thanks Marshall. Since the content test is water-absorption based, then I would think significant water contamination should show up in the test results. I assume driving the "clear space" at the top down. Which I'm not seeing. But I still can't explain why mine seems to test at E90. Most ...

Testing E85
Ran content tests on my early 2019 jugs to see if I wanted to use or discard. Used the Holley calibrated E85 test tube and all my results came out about 90%. Of course I was expecting 85%. Is this test considered accurate? Is there a generally agreed upon shelf life on pump E85, properly stored away...

Re: Lightweight wheels
Wheel weight vs actual lap time data is hard to find. Most everyone just talks about rotational inertia, unsprung weight and lotsa good sounding techy stuff. I once found a track-based study from a very sharp Japanese road racing team that gave surprising results. My recollection (highly undependabl...
Re: Pit Jacks
What's the use case Bill? If it's just jacking up to put jack stands underneath or to change a wheel, what about a short ramp (aka "2x6") for a little more jack clearance and stick with the racing jack? Mike I do a certain amount of tire changing and even suspension adjustment on the trai...
Re: Pit Jacks
Build a better scissor jack? What is failing that can’t be made thicker? I looked at that. The two arms are pivoted close to each other at the center. They interact at the bottom through gear teeth. Those are made of thin sheet metal, punched to give a hollow 3D tooth. The hollow gear teeth simply ...
Pit Jacks
What innovative pit jacks have you guys found lately? Something very compact, light, functional. I've been in love with motorized electric scissor jacks and converted one to a lithium battery weighing only a few ounces. But I've now had my second structural failure which result from no obvious exces...

Re: 2020 Helmet Certification
IIRC, SCCA has previously extended the life of the old helmets until they judge that the new issue is actually in substantial retail supply. Don't recall exactly how they communicated that -- Fastrack maybe?

Re: 2020 PAX factors released
I don't know the practicalities involved, but it boggles my mind how fast these cars can go with a thousand pounds worth of batteries. And how light that battery could be if you sized a custom for an autox instead of a multi-hundred mile road trip. Do you suppose it would be legal for Kiesel to conv...

Re: Buttonwillow AutoX Oct 20
Never heard of Omega Motorsports. Are their Buttonwillow autocrosses just time-only or do they have classes and such? Buttonwillow is great venue. I towed in the night before and got free camping in the grass & trees paddock. It was a race weekend so the place was crawling with serious race cars...
