Pretty sure those are K1-TS wheels, not K5R.

#SpecMiataStarterKit

Come on Mike you know that BMW is never going to move again, come out to the track and spend all your free time trying to keep a road race car in one piece - Toby and Morgan can give you lots of pointers.

Sparco is in Irvine, you can drop by the office and test fit (your butt) in the seats they have in the lobby.

But, while we're on the subject, does anyone know where one can buy Skittles? Perhaps I'm not looking correctly.
Skittles should be easier to find than a discontinued R compound Goodyear.

Re: Sumitomo Tires and Sizes

A higher UTQG does not guarantee more runs, you also need to look at construction and tread design. Many times tires that are designed for high freeway miles will fall apart when leaned on.

Re: New Street tires detrimental to the sport?

Keep telling yourself that is how a spec tire would work Jeff. Meanwhile in PWC the spec tires are $400ea. Continental is using a nearly decade old tire design and cost is not much better than PWC. Its a cash cow. Volume? Solo is not a very big blip on the radar of tire sales, you might sell a few t...

Re: New Street tires detrimental to the sport?

I would suggest that the Hancook fits most of your requirements Jeff. Is it at the absolute pointy end... no, but you only need that if you and the car are running for the win at a National event anyway. I think what you will find is that a lot of people will run the Hancook or the Dunlop at local ...

Re: New Street tires detrimental to the sport?

I may have this wrong but I thought the new “Street Tire” rules were intended to reduce costs and tire management issues for members, like me, that wanted to enter their stock "daily-drivers” at SOLO events without changing to comp tires. A worthy goal in my opinion. However the cost of the ne...

Once again Isley loves to spout off, but he really has not a clue what the issues are in this discussion. Loud doesn't mean right. And likely no one is a bigger expert on loud versus right than you Steve. Follow the rules that were engineered by a committee of your peers, well in advance, and you d...

Re: R1R TW200

I chimed in on the committee board that to suspend the rule to help some simple screws others. That was based on the presumption that a faster tire was being outlawed, so allowing it still to run would put those on the 200tw tires at a disadvantage. But info has now changed. The tire that really ma...

Re: R1R TW200

Let's be real here, I don't think anyone's going to protest running old tires at the local level. It's if someone shows up with brand new ones and expects to run those without protest that will be the problem . The rules have been out long enough for that not to happen. Now you are crossing over to...

Re: R1R TW200

200tw tires exist and everyone can buy them. if you don't like them who's fault is that? it's not like the timeline has been unfairly rushed or anything, it's been years in the making. However, given that toyo has all but explicitly stated that the 140 and 200 tw version are identical other than th...

Re: R1R TW200

No... I'm not looking forward to tossing a (still) good set of tires, and I definitely can't afford to do it twice within a couple of months. I'm hardly the only one in this boat. MANY who run street tires (all the way back to the SK days) run them for multiple years. That's part of their appeal to...

Re: R1R TW200

Good way to generalize the situation Jason. In my case it's not a general issue. I am not wasting money on a set of non Toyo 200TW tires to run legally before the Toyo 200TW gets released. I am investing a good chunk of my 2015 racing budget elsewhere currently. So is your car sitting on blocks? Wh...

Re: R1R TW200

We do the same thing with helmets. Helmets become illegal when they are more than two Snell revisions old. For example it's currently 2015 and the Snell 2000's are set to expire. But at least in the past, SCCA has extended their use until the new helmets actually reach the shelves and we can buy th...

Since its such a hardship for those with 140/180tw tires that there is talk of not adopting the new standard that has been on the way for over a year, would the same opportunity to burn up existing Rs be given to the people whose classes were killed? Rs in Street.

I don't know if they sell replacement covers. You could try dying it black.

Turns out I will also have a set of side mounts for it later this week - a $50 value.
