Re: "Home" Remedies 4 cleaning oil stains on ...

Real TSP, not the substitute most places sell, should really do the trick. It's also very caustic. It'll burn your skin if you come in contact with it concentrated. In Europe it's called sugar soap. It's main purpose is to remove grease and oil. Be careful of the run-off. The stuff is like lye.

Re: Cameras and Safety

I'm also planning to do the same setup If you read through this obtuse discussion you may have picked up on the fact that the how and where the camera is mounted is the important part. The part that screws to the camera may be solid but where does that part get attached? If the answer is a seat, or...

Re: Cameras and Safety

I made a homemade mount that screwed into the holes for the "Oh Sh*t" handle. Pretty stable. Good example of a rigid mount. If the camera can only move at the same rate as the car body, you have a safe mount. This is what I'd look for in tech. If you can't move the camera at all by tuggin...

Re: Cameras and Safety

needs head rests like in the photos: This is actually an example of a bad mount. Attached to the headrest is not a good attachment point. The flex in the seat adds way too much vibration/sway to the camera. Any good mounting point needs to be attached to a rigid body part like the dash, windows, bo...

Re: Cameras and Safety

most consumer tripods are nowhere near stiff enough in their mounts Ahh, there's the crux of it. A tripod is not a mounting device, it's made for holding a camera and not being attached to anything else including the ground (it sits on the ground), but especially not attached to something that's mo...

Re: Cameras and Safety

OK, I'll try again..... First of all we are talking about cameras that weigh ounces, not pounds. And I believe the camera in question here is more of the bullet style which doesn't have any real high CG issues. Next, the screw isn't (or shouldn't be) the load point - the attaching surface is unless ...

Re: Cameras and Safety

the word went out to require tethers More useless nanny-state regulations. The same physics applies to the entire car. How many feet/pounds of torque will the unit withstand? Since it's only in contact with one surface (not bridging two), it's easy to figure out because it only has its own mass to ...

Re: Cameras and Safety

under autocross loads, that little screw hole will rip out of the bottom of your shiny new camera Somehow I doubt that. Maybe I have a totally wrong impression of g-force but I don't think we pull several Gs out there unless we hit a pole. To rip a metal screw out I think it would take more force t...

Re: Who got snow?

Bill and I were working in Vegas today. He stayed, I tried to escape by the 95. Big mistake. Vegas got about 5-6" and as i sat on the 93 trying to out race the storm i got at least 6" on me. By the time I got to railroad pass the road was solid ice. Cars and semis filled the ditches. For s...

Re: Mounting a Hero Camera to a Vette

so I can see steering inputs plus the course. You need to do two things: Get a wide angle adapter lens for your camcorder (almost any camera store or discounter have them, they just screw onto the front of the lens), and set your camcorder to manual iris (exposure). You shouldn't have a problem wit...

Re: Papa Cal Club Election : RESULTS

I would disagree it is the economy, maybe some impact in the last 90 days, but track days in the last couple of years are selling out and there are more of them calendared than ever. It most definitely is the economy, and that leads to Christine's other two points about the fall-off. I think it's f...

I left the speedway Sunday after the event with the top down so I could enjoy not only a great sunset but this celestial delight at the same time. How's the saying go - the sun the moon, and the stars. (OK, planets) But it was simply spectacular.

Had a blast this weekend. Thanks, Max and Team Blew. Great course, Pete: I really loved today's. The low sun was a bitch. At several points I could see nothing and had to really rely on Evo School training to make the corner. In honor of Thanksgiving I give thanks that I get to do this with such a g...

I'm not exactly a big time bird person
Me neither, it just would be so unusual to see one here. It's parents can't be that far off. So where are they I wonder? Balds are wetland birds so there aren't that many places it could have come from.

Keep us posted.

Re: Son of "Don't Drift this Thread"'s long lost cousin...

there's a wild bald eagle fledgling that's taken residence (at least temporarily) at El Dorado park in Long Beach More than likely that's a golden eagle, somewhat common around here although mostly seen in the mountains and foothills. Goldens (the official bird and symbol of Mexico) is found here a...
