Re: Help me pick a car

(I know Randy already knows this - but for the sake of the discussion...) It's not at all unusual to have to find alternate salestwits in order to get taken seriously. I don't bother with anybody at that level and just walk into the sales manager's office and lay out the deal I want. Either I get it...

Re: Having Wheels Chromed

Having done plating for quite a long time, I'd suggest that it's almost always a bad idea to put anything on aluminum unless you REALLY need it there. Especially so with cast or forged pieces. Besides, the first thing they'd do is polish up the wheels anyway. Chrome looks like crap on anything less ...

Re: Tips for removing baked on brake dust ?

waxing the wheels beforehand possibly left a material that could melt and then the dust would adhere to it. i'd recommend a good quality autobody level pre-paint wax stripping solvent. won't dissolve the clearcoat, but will remove the wax and everything that comes with it. any abrasive is going to t...

Re: Tire Recs for Daily Drivers

Actually, I did a 270 last week while attempting a 9.8/10 U-turn. Little bitty teeny tiny bump sent the car right round and wound up facing oncoming traffic, which definitely got my attention. Kind of a drag to face the reality of tossing 215s with 3/32 tread and no flat spots. That USED to be the h...

Re: Tire Recs for Daily Drivers

Thanks guys. Still have the miata (14s - I'm cheap) and am looking at used minis.

Interesting that *nobody* mentioned the 615s.

Oh, and I generally run ST level tires all the time anyway, except on the 4d Civic. <shrug> Can't imagine a good reason not to. (ride, noise, etc...) lol

Tire Recs for Daily Drivers

Hey, can y'all help out a brutha?

I have no idea what a decent street tire is anymore. Even though there's still ~50% tread on my Azenis215s, they're long dead. The Miata needs new shoes - so what's good for ST these days?

Thanks for helping out the clueless...

really nice glass work is easy if you're patient and have lots of time. what's hard is getting it right the first time. good news is that fixing mistakes is the same as fixing damage - see point #1. you won't get decent results unless you take your time and really really think your way through the j...

AFAIK, If the car ever fails, it'll get pulled in every year thereafter. Doesn't matter who owned the car when it failed. Learned that one with my old CRX. Dono if an SCAQMD complaint makes a difference or not. Lesson: buy a new cat and swap it back in every time you need smog cert. in order to make...

Had a skilsaw jump out of the cut backwards the other day when the wood suddently relaxed and pinched the blade. Didn't know that a 14lb hunk of magnesium could be such an effective laxative.

50 cal with WC PCB drill bits crammed into the back of the projectile ain't afraid of a heck of a lot.

Energy absorption is key. Rigid is going the wrong direction. 6" thick sapphire will pop from a .22 hit.

And if someone doesn't go kick Button squarely in the nuts, really hard, this season will suck just as bad as when Whole Schumacher used to dominate most of the races. It's just not as much fun to watch when the same guy always wins.
