Re: FS: 13x7.5 Lenso wheels

I remember when I bought those new. I had that feeling you get when you get a really good deal (I love that feeling) because they were really light, very affordable, I could run 225/45/13s, they fit without rubbing (perfect offset for a Miata), they shortened my gear ratio a bit and they were really...

Re: Fast AX course at ACS today...?

It was a time trial. No door-to-door racing, but IIRC passing is allowed with a point-by in pre-determined places on the track. Very conservative and safe. I think we had five cars on track at a time. The track is wider and faster than a typical autox course, sort of an autox on steriods and you don...

Re: Fast AX course at ACS today...?

If it was in lot 12 then it was the Alfa Romeo Owner's Club doing time trialing, not autox.

Re: STS Miata Clutch Questions

I always hear that if you use the Mazda OEM clutch, don't use a Mazda pilot bearing (if you choose to replace it). Go to your local auto parts store and get their no-name one. Supposedly, the Mazda one isn't very good.

Re: What Were You Doing in 1996 ?

Spending $500 to $1000 a month on long-distance bills to Boston racing stock cars on Papyrus' Hawaii online beta racing servers. The graphics (by today's standards anyway) were horrible, the physics were laughable, cheating was rampant and we had more fun than should have been legal. One of the firs...

Re: If you were going to buy a new Daily Driver, that ...

Just to clarify about the Mazda S-Plan: it is now open to everybody (with Mazdaspeed member referral) and there are no restrictions on which car you buy. Meaning, Mazdaspeed 3s and 6s are also eligible. There was no termination date specified in the email I received on 12/4/08. I tried calling their...

In truth, I think the CATS might be toast ... 98K ... obd reader is now saying poor CAT efficiency. Before it told us to change out the Spark Pack ... which I did. Some of the '99s had bad coil packs from the factory. It could be that they were bad and killed your cats in the process. Sounds like y...

Re: CHP Ticket help/advice needed

In the "85 on the freeway" one, in the narrative, you said "I was weary of the CHP, but continued to follow the car in front of me."

As accurate as that may be, you might want to change "weary" to "wary". Definitely an unfortunate typo!

Re: Emission Test - Racer Friendly

Not sure which year is your Miata but on my 95 you can use paper clip to reset the code on a connector box in the engine bay. Once code is reset just drive it around a while and take it to emissions. However, we wonder off topic a bit, anyone got ideas for me? High NOx is usually either a bad EGR o...

Re: Another DVR Question

We switched from Dish to Verizon FIOS TV when our Dish contract ran out (we'd already had FIOS phone and internet). We had spotty reception on Dish - frequent screen freezing and dropouts even though the signal strength was strong. However, I liked the Dish DVR better than the new FIOS one. One thin...

Don LaFontaine

Don LaFontaine died today at age 68. You may not have known him by name or his face, but unless you lived under the proverbial rock, you knew his work. "In a world where..." was the beginning of so many movie trailers that bore his voice. The voiceover industry is one of the most competiti...

Taken from an AP story... “He had an extraordinary mechanical sense. He was very much in tune with the car,” said friend John Lamm, a noted automotive photographer and editor-at-large with Road & Track magazine. “His knowledge of automobiles was almost spooky. And he knew it off the top of his h...

Some may have heard about the "Triangle Of Life" concept by one Doug Copp which advises that rather than getting under something, you lay next to it. Seems plausable, but here is a Snopes article that at least partially refutes it. My personal method is to recite lines from Caddyshack whil...

It's interesting what your knees tend to do with that many strikes lined up. I think the worst thing is that everybody else stops bowling to watch and the place gets real quiet. It's a moment when you definitely know you're alive.

Accurate Alignment, 971 N Batavia #A, Orange, (714) 538-1916. A nice set by TA to be sure, but probably not close to his lifetime high series. I'd be shocked if he hasn't had several 800+ series. "Back in the day" Timmy was truly one of the nation's elite players. 'Course I'm just pissed that he just beat my lifetime high of 783 at age, what is he, 8...
