Re: CST Tire Treadwear Rules Change

It should be obvious (my snarky comment clearly didn’t come across well) but we have an entire class (csm) dedicated to lower treadwear tires that people can run right now. Why can’t the track day crowds run in that class? What problem are we solving?

Re: CST Tire Treadwear Rules Change

Why wouldn’t we just kill csm while we are at it? And why limit the treadwear to 100, why not cut straight to the chase and make the treadwear limit something like 41 (hoosiers are treadwear 40)?

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

This stuff isn't hard, and I know folks want to do a good job, but if a long standing rule is suddenly overturned, there should be NO QUESTION as to why and a whole lot of open debate. Derek I feel like you are under estimating the difficulty of having an open debate with thousands of people (autoc...

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

I don’t understand the “transparency” angle you guys have focused on. you all have stated the exact reasoning the SEB made its decicion in your arguments but still claim you don’t see the reasoning. I have personally spoon fed you the rationale in this thread and still you claim there is no transpar...

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

If building an engine, you can always work with your builder to make sure the components are rules compliant prior to assembly. Unfortunately, many of us in Street and Street Touring don't have that same level of connection with our local gas stations and refineries. We can only buy pump 91o...

June 2017 Fastrack Street and ST #21094 Octane Rating The following revised version of a previously published rule change proposal is provided by the SEB for member review and comment. Add to the end of the first sentence of 3.6.A as follows: “Street and Street Touring category vehicles will use fu...

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

Seriously? $5000 kit just to make sure you fuel is compliant....omg lol Please tell me the SEB worked out a member discount rate? Lol Seriously though, since things are self policed, is there a cost effective procedure drafted by the SEB for Street and ST competitors? I would like to think these ru...

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

at least one can measure octane. I think you can only do that with a lab, correct? Is there any home garage use tool that can be reliably used to help drivers check if their own fuel is compliant? My chemistry knowledge is limited on this, so if there are any such tool recommendations, please share...

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

I should also clarify that by saying “driving down participation” I don’t mean that there is negative participation trend. I mean that it is a downward pressure on growth. Just because ST is trending upwards doesn’t mean it couldn’t be trending more upwards. When the goal is to manage the performan...

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

The rationale for the change is specifically to render the unlimited boost allowance basically useless to limit how many cars got excluded from ST for being too powerful.

Not to mention federally approved it no where near enforceable, at least one can measure octane.

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

ST is popular because it requires cheap daily driveable tires. Applying the same logic to stock (now street) resulted in a reversal of a huge decline in participation. Everyone loved that change also. (<— sarcasm) 100 octane is the fuel equivalent of hoosiers. Think about it. Do you think ST is popu...

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

Sounds like you have never been to a trackday event, huh? Tell you what. I think you need to go and see who our regional motorsports competition is and what their customers are doing with their cars. Maybe by seeing it first hand, you can start to understand what we are up against to attract more d...

Re: Rules Proposal - Octane

But the seb said there was no advantage to 100 octane, right? I think people just want more of a safety margin against knock in the summers. ^fake news. at no point has the SEB's claim been that 100 octane is of no advantage. the claim is that performance gained from using expensive race fuel repre...

Re: 2018 Event Statistics

one of the dnf's in the first group was me after I spun in the finish and was backwards in the finish shoot. I decided to just exit the course rather that 5 point turn and slow down the event. I would say a large number of the dnf's were because the course was challenging, not because we all got los...

Re: 2017 Event Run Time Statistics

Also, the total times of 9 to 10 hours doesn't seem right. Am I misinterpreting that number? A typical 9am to 5pm would be 8 hrs. yes you are. the total time includes a fixed 'arrival' time for morning and afternoon competitors and a 3rd 'total time' that is intended it represent the actual arrival...

Re: Membership Poll...How long is too long?

If the value is not there, people will quickly find other things to do with their Sunday and their leisure dollars. Considering the vast majority of people couldn't care less about fun runs, the value provided is greatly diminished for most. While many of our hard core people choose to stay all day...

Re: Membership Poll...How long is too long?

and to follow up on the original point of this thread. the entire poll is flawed. We already know that people have no problem showing up for 12 hours for an autox, they do it every saturday (of race weekend). a better metric is how many runs do you get for the amount of time you commit. It is curren...

Re: Membership Poll...How long is too long?

the goal really isn't to pack up at noon or 1 pm. the goal is to stop running hugely inefficient events so that we can get more runs. I'd like to see us move in the direction of having a morning session and an afternoon session where everyone has the option to drive in both. it would probably requir...
