Re: NB Miata Tires Recommendations for DD/AX

Miata's like low unsprung weight and the SS's have stiff sidewalks, so I would try your 14's with those tires. Work on your driving, but rather then just repeating what you're doing, make sure you get rides whenever you can and have more experienced drivers do a lap in your car and then try to get ...

Re: NB Miata Tires Recommendations for DD/AX

I dont suppose any of you Star Spec owners wants to sell your used ones? :P Or should I open a WTB thread? I have two 185s and four 195s (run for the last time this past Sunday). They could be used for a couple/few events. $100 gets you all six (6). Let me know. Do you think the 195s have enough tr...

Re: NB Miata Tires Recommendations for DD/AX

... I've also read that Miata records are usually set on 185/60r14s. Can you give context for this? What kind of records? Not many autocross clubs have records, because they run a different course every time. [citation needed] huh? I read this (or similar) in a couple other forums discussing the be...

Re: NB Miata Tires Recommendations for DD/AX

What car are you racing? Your picture shows an NB, which means you should be on 15" (or 16") wheels not 14's Steve the '99 did offer a 14' wheel http://www.miata.net/faq/images/99-14.jpg But would agree the sport conversion and additional wheel options would be a great idea. Curt, no matt...

Re: NB Miata Tires Recommendations for DD/AX

Do you have a 99- Miata? Then convert it to a the option package that uses the 15x6 wheels your tire choices will be much better. George Schilling can tell you in detail the parts required to convert the 99 base to a sport package. Steve Coe Sadly, I doubt I'd be able to afford the conversion AND d...

Re: NB Miata Tires Recommendations for DD/AX

There's always the 615k from discounttiredirect for 97 a pop 195 though. I used to have some variety of Grand Touring Falkens on my '92 Civic EX. I never competed on them, but I was pretty happy with their performance on the street. Do you run those Azenis? How are they in the wet? Oh and the Star ...

Re: NB Miata Tires Recommendations for DD/AX

Thanks to everybody who replied! It looks like the consensus is Star Specs. I wish they came in 185 and at about half the price :P @Mako thanks for the advice. I may end up using ISLAND for mounting/balancing anyway, but when I had them do my alignment, I had to bring the car back because it pulled ...

NB Miata Tires Recommendations for DD/AX

Hi everybody. I had a great time at the 11/4 event, hoping to go to the next one. Anyway, (as Leonard may know,) my tires are basically skateboard wheels painted black, which means they're actually kind of dangerous in the wet at highway speeds. And "winter" is coming to CA... So, I'm look...

Re: Helmet Deals?

I'd be quite happy to find them for anywhere close to or under $100. There are some on eBay for about $150 but I'd hate to try to return it if it didn't fit.

Re: April Autocross weekend PHOTO/VIDEO thread

Here are Chi's 800 photos from 4/15; there are some of the day in general and a bunch of action shots from run group 5.

Guilty :D If you read it on your smartphone (as I do) make sure to visit m.xkcd.com so you can read the alt-text. Otherwise be sure to hover the mouse pointer over the image for the bonus joke.

Re: April Autocross weekend PHOTO/VIDEO thread

What Chi thinks is best is different from what we want to see. :-) I was going to delete all those tire shots; who knew there was a whole sub-set who love those shots! Yeah, who would have thought it? Perhaps we'll just throw them all up somewhere then. For the record, I want one of me in my car at...

I think this was my last run before the x-runs. Watching everyone else's videos I can tell it's a bit slow but it's noticeably faster than last month (which was my first ever AX). http://youtu.be/7vtxnj8gz1g" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; My wife was out there taking some p...

Re: April course...kudos to Kurt!

I was quite fond of this course too; Even as a rookie I didn't find it confusing at all. I especially liked the big sweeper into the Chicago box, and my second favorite part was right after the hard right turn until the turnaround (section 2, i suppose?). I don't think I ever got it quite right in a...

Re: Photos/videos March 18th PSCC Autocross Sunday

50D is what I used last year. I don't have anything dramatic like Larry Chen and his 600. I have a Canon 300 f4, that on a 50D is like a 480 mm ... excellent for AX. I also have a 1.4X that I use with it for a bit more reach. I also have a 500 mm F6.3 mirror lens, but it's very difficult to use, ie...

You know, I think You are absolutely right, except for the "attacking" part; I am exasperated. This is sounding more and more like it is not for me. It is hard to understand the program, my car is all wrong for it and I am not able to do it physically. All I have going for me is the desir...

FS: Stock Springs for Miata (99-05 base)

Stock Springs from my 1999 Mazda Miata (143k mi). They seem to be in good/working condition, I just swapped them out for Flyin' Miata springs. They should fit the base model Miatas from 1999-2005.

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!

Before my first autocross this past March, I spent some time "practicing" with a computer game called "Live for Speed." I think it helped a great deal at least to get used to which side of the cone to drive around and what turns and slaloms look like from a first-person driving p...

I know I'm kind of new here, but I'll throw in my two cents just in case. I have successfully defeated a speeding ticket with trial by declaration and in the course of all my research on how to do that I did learn something about contesting red light cameras (assuming you don't want to simply ignore...

Re: Photos/videos March 18th PSCC Autocross Sunday

One comment on your video, though - in the future, no hand-held cameras for either your passengers or you during your run, please. It's a safety issue. The last thing you want is for that camera to become a projectile and hit you, your passenger, or a course worker. Thanks. I always thought this wa...
