Re: How bad is using 10w30 oil instead of 5w30 for my DD?

It just allows for a thinner oil during start-up which means less wear. Hardly a factor in our climate. One could make a point that the slightly thicker oil leaves more of a coating between starts = less wear at start up. That's a false assumption. Bearing lubrication is all about oil flow through ...

Re: How bad is using 10w30 oil instead of 5w30 for my DD?

Here is the 411 on what the numbers mean on multi-viscosity oils. The first number ( 5W ) is the oils' viscosity when "cold". The second number ( 30 )is the oils' viscosity when at operating temperature. It just allows for a thinner oil during start-up which means less wear. On the other hand, the g...

The Greddy stickers work if you don't have any other crazy sh#$ on the engine. It sounds like you do though.

I don't think you are required to have a third brake light. I believe it simply states that IF you have a third brakelight (ie supplemental) then you are required to conform to the Federal standard. So, if that's true, the whole stop was illegal. Besides that, don't ever pop your hood for the police...

So everything says, however, the differentiation is that what's being measured isn't the same thing. Dinkel's been SAE chairman in addition to R&T editor, so no offense Marshall, I'll stick with his approach. Turning or twisting force such as the force imparted on the drive line by the engine. There you go. You'd think that any trailer manufacturer might want to list the weights of their trailers. Kinda important.

Re: Cheap dyno day with prizes and drinks included!

What do they charge for hourly dyno renting?

I say renting, because if I say dyno tuning, people mistake that for THE SHOP doing the tuning. I will be tuning my own car. I also need to be operating my car as well.

Thanks

Re: Skid Pad -- what was radius on 8/22 practice?

45' is tiny.

Like Mako said. 200' diameter skidpads are the norm.

There is enough room. The runways at El Toro are 250' wide edge of pavement.

Re: How to avoid getting your racecar impounded

You're confused. Section 27151 takes the limits in Article 2.5 and applies them as the maximum allowed for modification. You can't stop with just Section 27200; the subsequent Sections all apply under 27151. That's not what it says. You are reading more into it than is there. It's saying that you c...

Isn't the motorcycle standards you listed for new sale? It's not referenced that way: Yes it is. 27202. For the purposes of Section 27200 , the following noise limits shall apply to any motorcycle So, on with section 27200, which only has to do with registering new motor vehicles. 27200. (a) The De...

Re: How to avoid getting your racecar impounded

If you're going to be picky about my purposefully vague description of the standard, here it is and it's not much more complex than what I described: Under the SAE standard, a sound meter is placed 20 inches from the exhaust outlet at a 45-degree angle and the engine is revved to three quarters of ...

Re: How to avoid getting your racecar impounded

Well I had a nice experience today with a peace officer. Me and a co-worker were coming back from lunch. Po behind us. Turns right with me, then lights me up. I'm like, oh noes, pulled over for driving a Honda. He comes up to my window. I ask what the problem is. He tells me my registration is expir...

Re: How to avoid getting your racecar impounded

That's all technically true, but in the real world it plays out much differently, as Dave points out in his post. Most cops, about 95%, don't know what the actual exhaust law says. Even if you have a copy of the code, most will blow it off because you got it off the Internet. Asking them to actuall...

Re: How to avoid getting your racecar impounded

Should have called for a supervisor, especially if you have the code to prove. What VC were you cited for exactly? Peace officers can never claim that an exhaust is illegal because no amount of training can prove that it would be. I was pulled over by a motorcycle cop in Sherman Oaks a few years bac...

If you don't consent, they have nothing. They can't just stop you and say open the trunk I want to look for firearms. I don't think so! First and foremost, most firearms are not illegal. Second, the trunk is not anyplace that you have immediate access to. This still does not give probably cause beca...

Like the title says.

My helmet bag walked or flew off during the event. Black, mesh, says Fulmer.
