Re: Any good sources for RV rentals?
You get what you pay for. El Monte RV and CruiseAmerica are the most common. Lots of other lower priced local companies but the service, cleanliness, and quality can be spotty.

Re: "Them" and "Us" ... Racing Orgs
Without attending and graduating from driver school, you don't get a Regional License unless there's something I'm missing. Although none of this is listed in the rule books - in practice its much easier to get your licensing with SCCA. They will accept pretty much any driver school (not just a SCC...

Re: "Them" and "Us" ... Racing Orgs
If you read the posts in the IT forums by a STAC member the problem is with the people who don't run with SCCA. In his opinion those people should work within the SCCA system to make SCCA better and stop complaining about SCCA. The problem with that attitude is that those people don't want to be par...

Re: Axle rebuild shop in OC?
Try Rock Auto and NAPA. For CVs the most anyone does is disassemble, clean, grease, and reboot the joints. If there's wear or damage beyond the service limits the joint is generally scrapped.

Re: Apr Fastrack
For example, if a novice shows up with a street legal Caterham, he would be required to do a lot of modifications to be able to do a solo event??? Assuming the current Appendix C was actually enforced then our hypothetical novice would already have to do a lot of modifications. BTW... I don't think...

Re: Apr Fastrack
Appendix C in the Solo2 rule book is a mess. There are lots of phrases like: strongly suggested It is desirable It is recommended Silly, meaningless paragraphs like: 2. All welding must be of the highest possible quality with full penetration and will be subjected to very critical inspection. Arc we...

My favorite of these NIMBY jerks is the old BKK toxic waste landfill in West Covina. Been there since WW2. A developer build homes around the landfill and named the perimiter street Aroma Dr. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&gs_nf=1&tok=xYfsHwjXCSNsHsri--fmrw&cp=17&gs_id=cy&xhr=...

Re: Battery question
For race track use, focus more on reliability and reserve capacity then light weight. It sucks to miss the race because your super trick Lithium battery's internal fail safe circuitry tripped when you pulled the charger off in your paddock. Been there, done that. Didn't figure it out until after the...

Re: Annual Tech
Never heard whether shops can do an annual Solo2 tech. I would be willing to do an annual on someone's Solo2 car if they make an appointment and bring it by the shop. No charge (well, beer helps). I do that already for Club Racing. If this is OK I guess I would just need the stickers and notify Eric.

Re: 2012 Pro Solo rules
I think the rule should be re-written to say: TIME-OUT: It is the Grid Official's responsibility to notify the competitor of the need to take a “time-out” delay. The reason for the time-out is at the Grid Official's option determined by the competitor's behavior (emotional, psychological, stupidity,...

Re: FS redline shock proof heavy
You can always make some Shockproof Heavy Dirty Mother cocktails at the next CASOC party:
1 shot Tequila
1 shot Kahlua
1 shot Half and Half
2 drops Redline Shockproof Heavy
Shake and pour in Martini glasses.

Re: Rim to tire size question?
Make sure you are measuring the actual tread width, not the section width. Typically tread width is measures from point to point on the treadwear triangles. Jeff Speer years ago told me that for DOT-R tires you want wheel width to be 1/2" to 1" wider then actual measured tread width to opt...

Re: Your best "Renee" story
I was working one of the sections of a Lotus West school back in the first month I started auto crossing. A car spun and stalled 180 degrees past the corner where I was working and Renee was driving a student's car, coming up to the stalled car. I was waving my red flag and she didn't see me because...
