Re: Numbers for Nationals

The actual rules include all numbers must be the same color, size & font. However, the actual rules are seldom followed as long as the result is clear from a suitable distance. Like ourselves, they always talk about how tough they're going to be and it never happens. If you really get hard up, j...

Re: 2008 Solo National Championship, Sept 16-19

I would do the Last Chance if STS EVER ran Tues-Wed. But we are permanently stuck on Thurs-Fri to accomodate chief's schedules. Any other classes get that treatment??? Other than CP at Forbes because of their propensity to destroy the surface. : No, we don't destroy the surface. CP is traditionally...

Re: 2009 Nationals Site

Thanx for that. Doesn't sound too promising. I think if the central gathering fails due to gas prices (i.e. social engineering) the best we're likely to get is two or three Regional/National Championships. No attempt to duplicate course design. Perhaps they can assess the results with a PAX type app...

Re: ANSWERS TO NOTLD

That might work. I was thinking ten stacks of paper numbers with only one digit each. Need a three digit number, use three sheets of paper. Ten stacks is manageable. But the same technique on class letters is more cumbersome. Maybe just a half sheet of paper with a wide magic marker...class letters ...

Re: ANSWERS TO NOTLD

Hey John, May I please make a suggestion? Given the low light, it's going to be very difficult to see proper numbers and class designation much less crappy ones; can you be a real "N*zi" about this and make sure they don't pass tech w/o proper numbers (no tape, not on windows, contrasting...

I was talking with Bob Tunnell in 2005, as he had added the big wing to his M3 in SM, and he said that he really didn't want it to work, as he didn't like the look, but in testing they were significantly faster (1-1.5 seconds on a typical 60 second course) . I'd never want to call Tunnell wrong as ...

Re: 2009 Nationals Site

The club racing Run-offs still have a tow fund. The hard part about doing this with solo would be convincing everyone to pay a higher entry fee so money could be put into a pot for the top guys to go to natls. It would sure make qualifying to be one of the "top guys" more of an event than...

Re: 2009 Nationals Site

I'm hoping somebody knows more about this than me, but from what I remember hearing, Canada picks a Championship Day and several regional championships take place at the same time across the country. I think they somehow analyze the results...maybe something like a PAX result, and then declare a nat...

If the democrats, greenies, speculators, petro-megacompanies, and oil-monarchies all get their way...and I'd bet they will, gas will never really come back down and will eventually soar to new heights. Some in power welcome this as leverage for needed change to a renewable global energy baseline. It...

Not a big deal but I don't understand 'no checks'. I know the difficulty with our account, but couldn't the checks just be made out to Tom or whoever has charge of the money box? Don't see the problem...and you KNOW some people will show up without the cash. (Not me, promise) Someone said you 'seldo...

Re: Is Formula V Tire Restorer Solo Legal?

I've used it...and several similar softeners. They have negative value if used on new tires, because the first lap is always slippery. But you can use them on two or three year old tires and bring them back to maybe 6-month old performance. For three laps. After that the softened rubber is gone and ...

19,000 miles seems real low until you remember it isn't street legal. At maybe five miles per rallycross, that's a lot of dirt. Maybe it got onto the street once or twice?

Re: What else should I know about doing Nationals?

You might as well know some of the negatives. The lot would be roomy for one course, but pretty tight for two. But the designers are very experienced and they get a lot out of what they have to work with. Expect a LOT of slaloms. The pavement has a lot of sand in it, and the sand continuously emerge...

Re: Anyone with experience using QA1 Springs

I use QA-1s and Eibachs. No problems with either. Don't know how accurate their ratings, but none have ever settled as far as I know. QA-1 advantage is price...Eibach advantage is selection. They offer far more combinations of rate and length. You should use bumpstops to prevent solid stacking of an...

Hi Tom, I assume you have spun thin-wall outer rims. Any shop can bend those with power changers if they come across a tight tire and just force it. I usually take my chances, but insist on back-seat driving. If they want me out of their shop, I take my rims with me. People who do race tires for a l...

I've made my own hollow 4130 bars with tubing and arm materials from Aircraft Spruce. You can make stiff bars without reheat-treating, but a more flexible bar will develop too much stress. Corner me at an event if you need more info. I can show you the math to pick tubing dimensions for various stif...

Maxing mpg is kinda like autocrossing a stock-classer. You can do a little bit with various things on the car, but the driver by far has the greatest potential for improvement. Will mentioned the ScanGage. Get one...ScanGage II actually. (scangage.com) You can use the trip computer feature to calcul...

I think off-the-lot Carsons are a good deal, but everybody complains about their special order stuff. Featherlite's great if you don't mind the high up-front cost. For loading, the most ramps are too short for low-slung cars. My Mustang requires a couple short 2x6's to pop the spoiler up before gett...
