Re: Regular/Time only/X runs

At El Toro, we would not have enough workers with the current number of entries and 8 groups. Some groups are a little light with 6 groups. Of course somewhat course design dependent, but the sheer size of the facility is an issue to cover safely. Also, if you are light on workers you often have to...

Re: Regular/Time only/X runs

Obviously 8 run groups has some advantages. The two big disadvantages would be more frequent change overs and worker count. I don't know where we stand on worker count, but I would think change on the fly, which is not as easy as you would think due to compliance, might somehow be worked out.

Re: June 13 - 14 Event Registration is Now Open!

Hey George, it's been so long I've forgotten how practices work. I'm on the list but don't see that I'm assigned to a work or run group. Is that left undecided until on-site registration?

Re: Strut camber bolts in Steet Tire classes

Here's the thread I assume will directly apply to your car. Do a thread search on it for "camber". I don't follow it closely, but I haven't heard of slippage complaints and some of these guys are top national drivers with ultra sticky tires. While they don't complain about slippage, there ...

Re: Strut camber bolts in Steet Tire classes

Yes, the 2015 Mustang service manual calls for physical grinding of the holes for alignment purposes. I've seen it discussed quite a bit on a 2015 Mustang thread in the RRAX forum. But you have to follow the allowance to the letter. Doing something different (illegal mod) because you don't like the ...

Re: Just 4fun, dyno run of the rebuild M20B25 in our FP car

It's a straight-through perforated tube with packing in the case. Part of what makes it a bit quieter are the two shallow bends at inlet and outlet. They also have the muffler I think you're describing called the SuperTurbo. It's rated for lower horsepower levels, so must produce more back pressure....

Re: Just 4fun, dyno run of the rebuild M20B25 in our FP car

This is the one recommended to me by tech support at DynoMax. Have two of them on my 505 bhp CP Mustang which doesn't even come close to max at San Diego. But I also have an X-pipe, which might do part of the silencing. It's also available in a 2.5", but you have to stay with the offset/offset ...

Re: Learning a new course

I memorize. Didn't for many years until I got my Formula Ford, and then found I had restricted down-course sight. I don't know how KJ manages it, but I couldn't. I may be the only person who does this -- I verbalize my course walk into a tiny digital voice recorder. Basically describe the course to ...

Re: Passengers at Champ events

Too much is being made of this. Looks to me like the majority are going to favor restricting only "previews", as do I. Doug has a contrary opinion and Art has his concerns, but that's how it usually is. You never get 100% consensus, nor is it required. I'm for the full relaxation, no-previ...

A little Nationals history

Since I'm getting to be the longest grey-beard in the tent, I thought I'd pass along some recollections that I still consider a little weird. Kathy and I started attending Nationals in 1976, but she was reminding me of how strange the 77 and 79 Nationals at Dallas were. The familiar -- there were tw...

I asked the same thing when I was doing Starter. Was told anybody, anytime. Except you can't do a ride-along if you haven't completed your own official runs first. That was all verbal from the timing motorhome folks. Haven't seen anything in writing.

Re: R1R TW200

Some of you seem to have missed my point on helmets. Sometime back, a new Snell was released and official. But the helmets weren't actually on the shelves. SCCA extended the retirement date on the oldest helmets until the new helmets were actually in stock. I see that as similar to the Toyo situation.

Re: R1R TW200

We do the same thing with helmets. Helmets become illegal when they are more than two Snell revisions old. For example it's currently 2015 and the Snell 2000's are set to expire. But at least in the past, SCCA has extended their use until the new helmets actually reach the shelves and we can buy the...

Re: 200 TW tires in STS

The RS-3 has been released as a V2 with lower temperature capability. I ran them at a coolish event over at LVMS a couple weeks ago and they did well. But totally different car. Some regions are allowing their ST guys to continue to run R1R 140 until the 200s become available. Maybe that could carry...

Re: 2015 Classes

I see the rules actually state "body styles originating from" XXXX. As opposed to CAM T = 1954 to 72 as was originally stated. Odd way of doing things, but that must at least partially close that "not allowed" gap. I wonder why they just didn't say CAM C picks up where CAM T leav...
