Re: New $5 Dollar Bill
6 months ago(maybe more) when diesel was hoovering around $3.99/gallon, there was a station down by Galpin Ford selling it for $4.49/g. And they had customers lined up for it. Then there is the AM/PM station in Anaheim that is right across from a Chevron station, AM/PM is always $.40 higher ...

Re: $50 sparkplugs
Champion makes the spart plugs for one of our forklifts. German Forklift with an English(Perkins) engine. At the dealer, they are $143 each. At the autoparts store(one that can actually get them) they are $50 each. Good news is, we wont have to pay that much for too much longer. Bad news, Champion d...

I'd like to thank the SOB who pulled out of grid to go work on Saturday, and ran over a cone that contained my brand new air gauge. It was crushed. Now, I know you know you ran over something - why don't you admit it like a man. And I'm sure Irish would like it if the person that has his Cell Phone...

I think it was the last time we autocrossed in lot 8 at CS, The instrument cluster brackets in Pat's RX7 broke half the way through the run. I ended up with the cluster banging and scraping my legs for the rest of the run.

Re: How to get good gas mileage.
Earl, you've come around to prove my point to me. But even with the explanation of a 150lb tire hitting you at 55mph, a lot of people still don't believe the hazzard is there. Why? Because their vehicle can manouver around it so much quicker. Tailgating a Semi is okay, I can stop faster... My point...

Ah, 650ft lbs of oil burning torque. Thats it? David, well, I guess I must get the benifit of those people drafting me 100-120' behind me, for some reason, no one else that has driven these trucks of ours gets nearly the same milage as me. In the old ISM powered FTL the closest the boss got to me w...

Re: Truck tires
But this is my daily driver too and I'm not getting a Freightliner! Currently, I wouldn't either. They no longer offer the Cummins as an option. MB(Detroit) or Cat. Cat adds too much weight, 5-600 lb difference between the MBE4000 and the Cat engine. And the DBW/Emission tune of the MBE/DD ...

the closer they are the lower the potential contact speed On most trucks, when there is a blow out, much of the debris flys to the side. Not all blowouts just drop to the ground. I followed a truck in AZ thet blew out 3 tires on the right side of the trailer while in the right lane. The debris cove...

My old truck, Cummins ISM powered, would routenely get me 10.2-10.5mpg round trip to SD and back. ULSD dropped that to 9.8-10.2mpg. But the new truck with the newer emissions crap gets 8.5-9.0 on the same trip. Yea Detroit

5. Drafting - yep some of the hyper mileage guys tuck in behind semis and tag along for the ride. I'm not sure I recommend following others too closely - besides you might get a ticket. What I do is less dangerous: Do the bulk of the accceleration when in the "draft" of a vehicle - e.g. b...
Re: E-Track
E-Track will work. Most dry vans use E-Track for load holding. And the assortment of attachments you can get for E-Track is mind boggeling. The walls of a dry van are pretty flimsy too, but I'd still look into trying to tie the E-Track to the frame on the floor or at least add a brace/plate on the b...

Re: 2500 versus 3500 Trucks
They'd require smog on a '63 diesel? So you haven't heard the program ARB is trying to shove through on HD Diesels? Latest form would make all pre-98 HD diesels pass 2005 emission standards by 2009, all pre-2005 HD diesels pass 2007 emission standards by 2011, and by 2015 all On road HD diesels to ...

Steve, like I said before, 3500 DRW, opt for the engine brake, and a removable 5th wheel. New is great, but if I were looking, I'd go used and get the old 5.9CTD without all the emissions BS. But thats just me.

I don't remember who I took as an instructor the first time, really all I can remember was them commeting on how I didn't down shift to 1st in the slowest corner on the course and how well the car still pulled out of it. 210lbft at the front wheels at 3000rpm was nice.

Re: 2500 versus 3500 Trucks
The OEM Goodyears were horrid for ride. We chose the Bridgstone for the next set because people were raving about them. But with out experience with Michelins on the Semis, we tried them next and I must say, I wont be going back to the Bridgstones. We got the M/S tires purely for the fact the truck ...
