I'm sorry for your misfortune, and it's great you can keep your sense of humor about it. Let's hope, with the law of averages, that you're safe for another 15 years!!!

Re: Tire Rack Discount ?

I agree... I attended Continental's event a while back at Fontucky, and they seemed quiet, gripped well and had nice predictable breakaway characteristics at the limit. It's a little gimmicky, but they have the "D" and "W" (Dry and Wet) letters molded into the tread, each one ext...

Re: Autocross Event in Ventura County (w/Permission to Post)

ZR1's exhaust is so much better than a stock C4's, which had two tips per muffler, but only one was functional. If I had a C4, I'd either a) replace the exhaust system entirely, or b) take a little flat-black spray paint to the inside of that dummy tip, to make it match the soot-covered one!

Planes, cool Corvairs and an autocross? I'm in! Maybe someone can give me a ride around the course in a Greenbrier van. :D (Okay, my bucket list is modest!)

Re: Left Foot Brakers, do you use ...

A lot of people tell me that my lights are on all the time it could be because my car is impossible to drive normally and I have to keep the rear in check by tapping the brakes. I've never had my car setup that way but it sounds like tapping the brakes is a bandaid? I'm just trying to understand. E...

Barco's brake lights would be on for the entire lap and his brakes would sometimes be smoking when he came off course ... Are you sure you are not talking about Mihai  Barco never had his lights on all the time but he was using his left foot to build boost before exiting the corner. A lot of p...

Re: Any tire advice for ST2 Miata?

Hey Dan,

I'm running the Direzza Star Specs and am really liking them so far...2 auto-x's and no chunking yet. Does the grip level stay fairly consistent through the life of the tire?

Re: 2010 TIRERACK SoPac Divisional - June 26th & 27th

There's a Knowlwood's (great burgers and sandwiches), Jack in the Box and a Denny's on Sand Canyon just south of Interstate 5...only a few hundred yards from the Marine Way entrance to El Toro. Also, there's a Goodyear wheel/tire shop on the corner of Bake Parkway and Irvine (directions: north on Sa...

Re: Cougar Replacement

Anyone have experience with CarMax? My first reaction is to not go anywhere near them, but they have a nice RX-8 that fits my needs. Unfortunately their "no-haggle" price is waaaaaaay too high, I'm wondering if that's just what they do and I'll be able to talk them down? Here's a link to ...

Re: Cougar Replacement

Jason makes a helluva case for the RX-8. Hoosiers are addicting.... But I watched Jason testing the streets in SK trim once and it was damn impressive. Sure looked a lot better than when I tried KJ's car in stock trim with crappy tires. But even then with no grip the car was very well behaved and b...

Re: Cougar Replacement

RX-8s are well-rounded performers, but the back seat is for kids (or race tires, as mentioned!). Good steering feel, solid gearbox, balanced handling. They are a bit weak in low to midrange torque...more noticeable in street driving, maybe less of an issue in an autocross where you're spinning the e...

Re: Kudo's to Team Blew

Great course...a nice mix of that wicked fast first section, tight slalom and not-too-tight radii on the turnarounds. I've never shagged so many cones as I did working the slalom!

And Theo, a stellar run there in CST...you found almost 2 seconds in that last run! Grrr.... :D

I'll answer for Greg, in the interest of expediency: It's a Contour HD1080P that he borrowed from Ravid (running the burgundy Spec Miata). It's a "wearable" camera popular with the action sports guys. You can get a helmet mount and a goggle mount, in addition to the standard suction cup th...

Re: Cougar Replacement

The G35 I drove had the stock all-season rim protectors, which I'm sure had a lot to do with it! Impressive car for the most part...not the most refined, but excellent torque, response and fun to drive in a toss-and-catch style.

Those first-gen G35s have crazy power oversteer with the traction control switched off. Drove a friend's once at an auto-x, and it was pretty much undriveable!

Of course, with the right tweaks...

I'm pretty confident I don't want a FWD car. I'm going to test drive a Genesis Coupe tomorrow night, so we'll see how that goes. Jeff, make sure you drive a R Spec or Track model - the others don't have Brembos and also don't have a limited slip, and the car is useless without one! The R Spec is es...

Re: Suggestions for an ECU tune for our "STR" NB Miata

Hey Mako,

Check with PPE Engineering. They've done 3 or 4 "pre-cat" headers for the NC Miatas, so they might be able to gin some up. Might be $$$$$ though.

Great photo (and print quality) from last event...thx!
