Re: Trailer Brake Question

I say ditch the surge brakes and put electric brakes on one axle. They will work fine.

I believe Steve Lepper, owner of Gearhead's Garage is fairly well-versed in the Miata as well.

Plus, if you're throwing darts from the couch, once you've delivered the entire salvo, you gotta get up to retrieve them. Unless you tie strings on each one so you can just yank them back, of course. Hey, that's not a bad idea...

My favorite part was that the guy said because he was a Leo, he was a lion too and therefore identified with the cubs. Now it appears he was a lyin' alright.

Re: 914 & Electric

Sorry to bring this thread back on topic , but here is a blog that a guy in Oregon wrote while doing a 914 conversion. Now, this guy is an actual electrical engineer , of apparent above-average intelligence and even though he bought a kit expressly designed for the Porsche 914 ($13k, not in...

Bob, I'm curious why you would limit it to just the 1.6?

Re: How to get good gas mileage.

Look at this one. This is an example of when money is no object, apparently. Nearly $16k for motor/batteries/ultracaps. I don't see any performance numbers anywhere, but the project sure is clean. I like the idea of using the ultracapacitors as "electronic NOS", sort of.

Has anyone ever done a gas->electric conversion? My idle daydreaming has been of that lately. Here is a blog I've been watching.

Re: First Job

When I was 18, my girlfriend's father pulled some strings and got me my first real job: service writer at Scandia Auto Imports in Whittier, a Saab/Fiat dealership. Her father was a Saab mechanic. I made $600 a month, I couldn't imagine how I could spend all of that money. I also wasn't familiar with...

Re: Trailering your car...

I have one of those cheap Big Tex wood-deck open trailers with the dinky 4' ramps. I also have a lowered Miata. But rather than messing with longer ramps, I just back my truck up on my Rhino ramps to lower the rear of the trailer. Works fine. Also, to get the door to clear the fender, I built car-le...
