Re: windshield repair
For Mako... Cheaper the auto replacement glass is, often the lighter it is.... Old racer trick. Wait 'till you have to replace the C5 windshield that has the heads up display . You will be real unhappy. For that matter, the C5 rear glass with the imbedded defogger is hugely painful. Best head up di...

+1 for Safelite. If it's just a rock chip it can be repaired. Once it's a crack you'll need the whole windshield.Rick Brown wrote:Safelite. Used them multiple times, professional, good price, on time. Definitely recommend.

Re: How to prep car to pass smog?
If you have any doubt, pre-test. Air filter, fresh plugs, maybe fresh wires. Drive the car for an hour ahead of time to ensure full heat soak of all components. Oil change shouldn't matter unless your valve seals are leaking a lot, as in the car smokes like an Arab at hookah bar*. *Note that Arabs e...

Re: OBDII Reader saves me ...
Actually anyone have an OBDI reader. Don't find them very often, and I don't want to spend the $200 for a reader that is OBDI & OBDII, but would like to read/reset some codes on the Corvette. I got an OBD II code reader at Autozone for about $50. The OBD I readers I've found listed online are s...

1992 is OBD I, not sure if they plug into the diagnostic port on those. O2 sensor and cat are likely culprits. I'm pretty sure your truck has fuel injection, so none of the carburetor related issues apply.

When you rev the engine while the car is in neutral and the engine shifts, like in one of the first videos, that's an engine mount.
The noise when you turn the car is probably a CV joint.

I think the Speedway's limit is 95db.
If there's an event in San Diego you can always go down there and experience the warm hospitality reserved for those who go over the sound limit.

Don't know what a "boxer motor" is Boxer = flat configuration, opposed cylinders. In a "normal" engine, the cylinders are above the crank case and the oil goes down into the sump by gravity. I wonder on a boxer engine if all the oil pours and pools up against the undersides of t...

It's a PITA getting to the Legacy Outback oil filter. I change the oil myself in our other cars. They must have moved it because on the '99 it's right up front on the bottom of the engine. I don't even need to put the car on ramps or stands to change the oil. That is the one and only part of workin...

SM/SSM drivers need to always heed the lessons Mike has taught the class. You don't need 800hp in a tiny sports car. The LSx is exciting because it is a lightweight V8 (relatively speaking) and fairly nicely packaged (again relatively speaking). But its overkill in a miata at the true national leve...
