New to the area, been around the cones once or twice..

Post by Shane Donahue »

Greetings Cal Club autoxers, allow myself to introduce... myself.
I'm an autocrosser who got his start back in 2004, and I've been running ever since.
If you've been to nats, or listened in on the live streams in the last few years at the right time, you may have heard the sultry sounds of my voice.. or if you happened to have tuned in to The ConeCoach podcast that I record with Neal Tovsen.

I'm in the process of relocating to LA, and can't wait to get back in the game in an area that allows for events year 'round once i'm back up to speed with a fun vehicle... or if someone's interested in a co-driver!

Hope to see you all real soon!

Hey Max!
The Z is pending sale.. The auction closed on Bring a Trailer, and the new owner is expected to pick it up this weekend.
Proceeds from that, selling my Volt after i move, and anything leftover after moving into and furnishing my new apartment will feed into buying something fun again in the future.

But until then.. my one car is a Volt.
it's great A to B... but it's a joyless hate machine of eco-friendliness.

I'm a bit late to the party Shane, but I'll just add:
  • Welcome to the region! Get something - anything - and join us at El Toro in a couple weeks. Be sure to sign up in advance. And even if you don't, get your butt out to the event to say hi and meet the yokels.
  • You're an announcer type. Max is an announcer type. Max may or may not have peed all over the timing vehicle on or around June 19th. Just sayin'...
See you out there!

Car or not, i'm going to try and drop by and see what's up.
Work just dumped a bunch of travel on me right after I relocate (literally days after) so it may have slowed my plans a bit :(

Ah yes.. Traditional territory marking. I've delt with this before. You just gotta bite the existing announcer on the ear to show you're serious, and things will usually settle out well enough.

I've been doing some reading, and apparently I have to choose a club? are bribes involved?

Actually you can choose "none" for your first year, but I expect you may be courted by a couple of clubs. I'd pit them against each other to get the best benefits. ;)

Better try to get this bribing out of the way before you guys see me drive, and realize that any offer was huge mistake.

The modern world is divided between SCNAX and CASOC with others claiming to be clubs as well. You're not old enough for GRA or Morgan+4 although both have a ton of history and some members you will want to know. PSCC has sort of died off again, which is sad because that was not only a club dating back to the 1950's but was epically cool as well. That leaves CASOC which has been very dominate the past 18 years or so (since I joined). And SCNAX which is starting to show dominance now. SCNAX started as the Sport Compact club, but they take any type of vehicle. You'll have a good time in either or in neither. We do have two team competitions that run year long. You can't make a wrong decision.
