Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
I have a 1969 Datsun Roadster with a U20 Solex motor.
I can run either stock wheels or aftermarket with street tires or R comps.
Suspension is stock with Nissan comp springs up front.
I have stock seats and a roll bar. I can install harnesses (and I intend to before racing). I'd like to install racing seats.
What class can I race in? I can't find any information about some "Historic" class 1 or 2, CSP looks closest, but your advice would be very helpful.
Questions/comments invited. I want to bring the car out.

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
Garm- Was that motor standard or optional in that car? Absent that, is it the same make?
Your car would fit in our local Historic, but we need to find the right under lying SCCA class.
Safety question: When you sit in the car with your helmet is the top of the helmet below the top of the roll bar? The harness can kill you in a rollover if it doesn't allow you to duck below the bar. Same too if its merely a cosmetic bar. You could still run with normal factory style belts.

Garm: You've got it right with CSP. Please do come out, I would love to see the car. Maybe it will inspire me to finally get my 1600 project going.

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
Thanks guys.
With helmet, I am over the bar. The bar is an autopower type, bolt in with plates underneath.
The U20 was standard on a Datsun "2000" Roadster. The Solex Solex model was optional but available from the dealer.
I am not opposed to more safety preparation work on the car, including re-doing the roll bar.
I have never raced without harnesses; the shoulder belt on the Roadster is just plain silly.
I have the white Turbo Yaris #246 that comes out once in a while.
So, what do I do to properly prepare for safety? Will changing the seats make any difference in classing?

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
CSP allows any manifold/carb/injection on the stock motor, so the Solex isn't an issue. Also springs are open there. You can change seats and steering wheels too.
To run the harness we need the bar above your head. Some options. In my drag cars I used to run a 3" lap belt. You could add that belt to the stock shoulder. An aftermarket seat with side bolstering along with a good lap belt is what many autocrossers use so their shoulders aren't restricted. I'd caution on an extreme road race seat that really locks you in in an extreme way. Again, you want to be able to tuck under that bar in a rollover.
CSP allows anysize wheel and any DOT legal tire (R-compounds allowed). I'm not sure what the Historic guys are doing for tires these days. Seems like they had a street tire option with an index factor or something.

E-Prepared - mostly because of the gutted interior. Otherwise I think you'd be legal for SMF.Kyle O'Rourke wrote:Do you guys know what I could run my Prelude in for ProSolo?

Either way, you would be best served by getting stickier tires...

Because of your "mostly gutted interior", I believe E-Prepared is the class your car will fall into.Kyle O'Rourke wrote:Do you guys know what I could run my Prelude in for ProSolo?

Would it be G-Prepared instead of E-Prepared? I believe the Prelude falls under G-stock.

There isn't a tie between a stock classification and street prepared or prepared classification, as cars respond differently to the allowances have differing impacts on various models. Each classification has its own listing in the back of the book.Kyle O'Rourke wrote:Would it be G-Prepared instead of E-Prepared? I believe the Prelude falls under G-stock.

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
I just read the rules and I still am trying to wrap my head around them. So if i got this right, I can enter into SMF or EP as you guys have stated so far. As for the SMF weight calculation, and I read correctly, the minimum weight for my car would be 1750 + (125 * 2.2) = 2025lbs? And in EP, I think it said if I run wheels larger than 7" and less than 10", I need to add 75lbs? How does that factor into EP? (I run 16x8 wheels). Finally, between SMF and EP, which would be a better class for me? (I also don't plan to change tires)KJ Christopher wrote:There isn't a tie between a stock classification and street prepared or prepared classification, as cars respond differently to the allowances have differing impacts on various models. A gutted interior isn't allowed in SMF. That said, if you're on Hankooks, I doubt you'll find anyone throwing paper.Kyle O'Rourke wrote:I just read the rules and I still am trying to wrap my head around them. Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
Kyle, your car was built to your taste---not to SCCA rules---therfore, you need to either change the car and/or tires to be competitive in a SCCA class.Kyle O'Rourke wrote:Would it be G-Prepared instead of E-Prepared? I believe the Prelude falls under G-stock.
EP is tough, here you must run against purpose built (to SCCA rules) autocross cars on soft slick tires and it is a combined class with all preps and mods. Nearly all are national class cars, if not national class drivers--- ---.
The other choice is to run a local class---CST---run what you brung on street tires (your R-S3's).

Kyle has been running CST for awhile now, he's looking for a class to run in for the ProSolo, which (AFAIK) won't be offering CST class.Don Salyers wrote: The other choice is to run a local class---CST---run what you brung on street tires (your R-S3's).

Looks like I am running EP. I don't care too much about how well I will do. I mainly just want to try out ProSolo and I need a class to run in. Thanks for the help everyone!

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
My first Pro-Solo, I ran the RX8 in BS, on RE01Rs. Amazingly enough, I wasn't in last place after the first heat. (Thanks Mark Sipe!) Of course, I was quickly relegated to last place on Saturday afternoon. Still had a ton of fun. Even today, from a competitive POV, it makes no sense for me to run the ProSolo as I'm in an indexed class with the other mod cars. But from a fun POV, it's still awesome and I sign up every year, and made trips to Farmington and Lincoln to run a second pro.Kyle O'Rourke wrote:Looks like I am running EP. Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
What are the class options for my 1999 Miata, which has aftermarket shocks and springs, and Dunlop Direzza Star Specs?
I have usually ran CST just because I didn't have to worry about the class much. It runs fairly early this time, though. I basically just want to run some time after the lunch break; I work late and I'm usually not in good driving condition with less than a few hours of sleep.
Thanks!

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
Bushings cant contain more metal than stock, so poly or delrin is fine, but all metal is not.
I believe Super Street Modified is the next step in the ladder (350z is 2 seater right?), but your car and prep level would probably be more competitive in BSP.
