I will be doing a few mods eventually that may change my class but I'm hoping to understand classing more before those happen.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Niki, yep, DS is correct. The proper class letters would be NOV DS. Check with Jayson Woodruff for vinyl: http://www.jaycomvinyl.com/

Also, you might check into the Ladies School on the 30th. You will get personalized training from some of the top women drivers in the country.

I have a 16 year old son and we will be soloing our 2016 mustang ECO 4 with the performance package. We are considering some modifications but would like to keep it in a stock class. The modifications we are considering are Intake, Intercooler and exhaust with minor suspension upgrades such as bushings and springs with upgraded tire size. Will any of these bolt on modifications put the car in a higher class and if so what other modifications would be beneficial if we end up in a higher class so we can be competitive and still keep the car primarily in stock trim? Also, I am considering putting my Saleen S302E into the CAM class. It is my understanding that the CAM class allows almost all modifications except wheel base and tread wear tires of 200 or greater is this correct?

Welcome
'16 Mustang - each of your Mod's listed would likely knock you out of stock; or in SCCA parlance "Street"...

This list is over simplified, but in Street you can only do the following "Mods" from your list:
Intake: Air Element in stock box
Exhaust: Cat back
Suspension: Shocks, no more than two way adjustable
Wheels +/- 1" diameter on stock width

Intercooler, Bushings, and Springs would not be allowed to be modified and remain in street. each of these modifications would land you someplace different in Official SCCA classes. The intercooler I believe would would send you straight to Modified... where you can gut the car. Due to this, answering the second question is a little problematic.

IMHO if he is only 16... keep the car Bone Stock for a year or more until he has mastered it.

Also add:

Sway Bar: You can change 1 sway bar (either front or rear) with a different size one or eliminate it entirely.
Tires: 200tw or higher, but size is unrestricted.

If you want to modify the car more than that, you might want to consider STP class or CAM.
Rules for STP can be found under Street Touring here: http://www.scca.com/pages/solo-cars-and-rules

Hello,
New to Cal Club and could use some help classing my car:

2002 Porsche 911 Turbo (996 generation)
- CA Registered and plated
- 295 width rear tires
- 180 treadwear tires (DOT legal)
- aftermarket exhaust with high flow cat
- ECU tune with increased boost to .8bar
- 3 way coilover suspension
- aftermarket steering wheel (not sure that matters)
(contemplating a rollbar, 6-point harnesses, race bucket)

I think I am in SSP but any help would be much appreciated. Also, does it make a difference in my class if I take the ECU back to stock? Thanks!

Hi Brandon! Yup, SSP is correct, but you since you are on Street Tires you would be more competitive in our local CST class.

Hi Pals & Gals,

I believe my '13 fit will soon be FSP and I just want to confirm for next season.

I ran STF this year but I believe my current mods and soon to be future mods will bump me out of the class.

Mods:
Engine: Stock (Automatic)
Suspension: Koni Shocks & Tien Springs
Progress Rear Sway Bar
Wheels: Drag DR33 16x7
Tires: Dunlop Direzza DZ102 (205/50/r16)
Seat: Cobra Monaco Pro
Body: Honda Access Modulo Front Lip ( Accessory to Japanese Fits from dealership, but not available in US from dealership)
Rear "Duck Bill spoiler" Fiberglass
------
FUTURE MODS

Front Bumper Canards
Front Bumper Winglets
Carbon Fiber Hood (vented)

I believe these 3 mods bump me into (FSP). I am not competitive in my (automatic) Fit and most of my mods are just for looks but I want to make sure I am classed correctly.

Thanks!! :D

Just for clarification, I have a 2016 focus st. All stock with the only add ons, which havent decided to go with 17x8.5 or stay with oem 18x8.5 with 200 treadwear tires. this I assume will still allow me to be in GS? Will adding a short shift kit bump me out of GS?

I would talk to the local guys in STF first and see if they have an issue with the body mods. Otherwise I think its SMF.

Thanks for the tip, I am at least 8-10 seconds behind the middle of the pack for STF. I just didn't want to appear like I am "cheating" the rest of the class.

I will aslo look into SMF.

Thanks!

Hi All,

I want to start driving on Sundays starting next year for more seat time and need help classing my car.
My times are no where near competitive so this is for registration purposes.

Car: 1975 Datsun 280Z
Engine: Stock with aftermarket radiator
Suspension: Coilovers
Brakes: Increased rotor/caliper size in front. Drum to disc brake conversion in rear
Wheels: 16x8
Tires: Kumho ecsta XS (180 tread wear)
Body: Removed front and rear bumper

I believe removing my bumpers puts me in FP?
Also, if I swap tires to 200 tread wear tires, can I be in CST?

Thanks!

Yes, and Yes. Can also be in CSM with the existing tires. When registering for FP, register in P (Prepared Combined) with an FP PAX.

Yes, you would be in STR (street touring roadster)

This classing depend upon the nature of the non-stock components.

if the shocks are no more than double-adjustable, the ACT pressure plate is OEM spec, and the Exhaust mod is catback, then this this fits the B Street class.

The air filter change is OK for B Street
Tires are OK for B Street
Swaybar is OK for B Street
Assuming springs are OEM spec...

be careful with this recommendation. the springs have to be exactly the oem springs. Without much effort, off the self Apex N1 coilovers are not street class legal.

He said coilovers... not 100% up on the new street vs old stock... but I'm not sure coilovers are legal... spring spec's aside.

Thanks guys. So it looks like I should put my oem S2000 strut/spring combo back on to be street class legal. Will a new set of CR strut/spring be ok?

CR struts are OK. The CR springs are stiffer than OEM, so are not allowed in Street for a non-CR S2000.

Thanks guys.. I forgot to mention I have Hasport Engine mounts and EVS differential collars. Is this an issue? I read that bushing are ok but these are complete hardware and bushing changes.
