I don't think Bowland ever paxed #1. I know Gary Milligan did in the Phantom (another AM car)

If he wanted a cheap uncompetitive car like the Z, he already owns a convertible Rustang.

Do they create a low pressure area under the car? Or something else?

Basically, what has attracted me to this sport is how I can do it cheap at 1st & grow as money & skill improves.

not so much create low pressure as much as they keep the air from going under the car and filling in the low pressure that the big ass diffusor that's hanging off the rear generates.

only class in the world that i know of that allows sliding skirts.

Yep, get that setup and let Katy Nicholls kick yer butt!

Seriously, that's what I'd do for a cost-effective autox car. The real bonus is Mazda's support program. Register through MazdaMotorsports.com (requires your SCCA membership and some other easier stuff), compete in the car for at least two events per year and you're eligible for huge discounts on factory parts for the car.

You know they're serious when it takes them 7 years to build and it comes with Ohlens

Mark Daddio's SM Evo is cheaper. And built to autocross.

Street legal too.

And then there is Tom Berry's vette. Much cheaper and I'd imagine much faster doing what we do.

Plus neither car is as ugly as a Suburu. }:)

You fail to consider that neither of those cars have as many decals as the STI! Odd that all those stickers can't hide the fact that it's still a Suby. :D

I got to learn alot a this past Cal. spd way event 9/13-14/08.

& I learned riding with Jeff Ringer how nice mid engines cars handle & after riding in a couple of miatas how well those run as well.

Yet I also learned how bad my old stock Stang dont handle very well.:(

Maybe thats do to it being 1000% Stock with old original shocks & etc etc.....

But being the comments made to me by an experienced AX'er that drove my car, really has me re-thinking what I what to drive?

What's the top 5 best cars to AX on the cheapest budget?

Seems Miatas are very popular?

& I really liked how the mid engine MR2 handles as well.

& that has me wondering about Mid Engine cars?

remember the key in my quest is cheap.

I'm actually considering a trade for my '85 GT vert.
& that is a disirable year/model in Mustang world.

Miatas run in several classes, depends on year and prep, but it can be done cheaply.

The 2nd gen MR2 also runs in a few classes; the NA will be cheaper than the Turbo.

Older Honda Civic Si or CRX Si.

I've got a couple 1st gen MR2s that I'll be getting rid of at the end of the year cheap. They're fun to build for STS2 or CSM, maybe even CSP now and I've had success RallyXing them. One is good to drive out of the box, the other drives but could use some refreshing.
