New to CA
Hello everyone!
My name is Dan and I am in process of accepting a relocation package from my employer that will move me to the Bakersfield area. It appears that you are the local SCCA group for the area?
I have done some Solo 1 and Solo 2 in the past and would love to get involved. How long is your season, and how many events do you run each year?
Thanks for any input!!

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the region! We run all 12 months of the year and do about 12-16 events a year.
You can view the current calendar here:

pretty rough hitting the events from bakersfield though. nothing's really "local" to you.
the upside is that buttonwillow is very close by..

Re: New to CA
Good News: Autocross Season is year round in California.
Bad News: None of our events happen within a 100 miles of you.
Good News: Bakersfield is really close to Buttonwillow.
Bad News: We haven't done a buttonwillow solo event for a few years.
Good News: There are a ton of other awesome motorsports events at Button.
Bad News: It's probably 9 billion degrees up in bakersfield this time of year.

due to global warming, it's probably more like 10 billion degrees.
with the dry heat though, it probably feels like 9.5 billion!
mazda is running their mazfest 2008 there this upcoming weekend. so tempted to go rent one of their miatas for the day.

Best part is all the airlines have now started to pull out of the regional airports because of fuel prices, so it was probably all for nothing on their part.
Re: New to CA
Well, coming from Maine, year round events are a dream and 100 mile drives are not that big of a deal.
I really have been spending more energy on track events for the last several years, so it will be ok!
It was 109 in Bakersfield today... hot here is 90 but it is a "wet heat" so it feels worse.
My turbo Miata has never had overheating problems, but I suspect that is about to change...
What weekend is the Mazfest? I will be in town the 19th, maybe I can check it out!
