Yet another Nub wanting to try autoX with stock car

Hello Cal Club:

My co-worker talks about autox and how much fun they have doing it so I am curious to try this out here at El Toro. Am a bit confused on the categories so what would you put a bone stock 2014 Lexus IS250 in? Also, will the class change if I install larger midpipe and axle back muffler Like the Apexi N1 Evo?

Thank you so much for the info and looking forward to running the course in March.

Hello Ramon and welcome!

Our car classing rules are here: https://dk1xgl0d43mu1.cloudfront.net/us ... 1485816596

Looks like a LS250 is in D Street (or DS). If you post your exhaust mods question in our car classing thread you'll get a proper answer to that there.

Come on out and try it! We're a very friendly bunch and we've got lots of great resources for newcomers. On competition days we have novice course walks hosted by our Novice Coordinator Leonard Cachola. We also have dedicated instructor lanes so you can have an expert show you the ropes on the first few laps. Beyond that, this is a great group of friendly people. Just let them know it's your first time out at registration and they point you in the right direction.

Your co-worker is right...autocross is an absolute blast. And the first step is just getting out there....and it sounds like your on your way!

Thank you, Randy and Marshall!

DS it is. Where do you guys get/buy the magnetic number tags and is there a local (Irvine) shop you'd recommend for safety equipment like helmets? I have Moto stuff but I don't think it's SA2015 approved.

We do accept some non SA rated helmets. Make sure your helmet has a sticker in it from this sheet, if you do, you can use it with us:

A couple of our local club members can get you some of those thing (helmets, numbers, etc)....I'll let them chime in if they want to offer their services. You can always use paper numbers your first few events...heck my car is plastic so I've been faking it with white electricians tape for years now!

In addition, we do have loaner helmets available if necessary.

Jayson Woodruff is the man for magnetic and vinyl numbers: http://www.jaycomvinyl.com/

Snell rated motorcycle helmets are OK, as long as it's M2005 or newer.

Thank you, Rick! Also, do you know if the Marine Way entrance (from Sand Canyon) to AMCI/Runway at El Toro is now open?

That way hasn't been open for a long while now. We've been coming in the entrance off Astor (turn left onto Marine way):

I have a question regarding Practice and race days:

1. How is practice day organized?
1a. Do the cars just line up and wait their turn?
1b. It is timed, I assume.
1c. Do you have to stay the day or can you practice for half a day?

2. Sunday, race day:
2a. Is the course the same as practice day or do you change it and make it more challenging?
2b. Are folding canopies and chairs allowed for the pit (same question for practice day)?

1. How is practice day organized?
1a. Do the cars just line up and wait their turn? Typically 3 timed groups, you are working one and running the other two. No classes, just line up and run. Minimum of 12 runs, often more. 1/2 your runs in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon.
1b. It is timed, I assume. Yes.
1c. Do you have to stay the day or can you practice for half a day? You pay for the whole day. You can split your entry with another person though, often there are others looking to do the same.

2. Sunday, race day:
2a. Is the course the same as practice day or do you change it and make it more challenging? Course is designed for Sunday, but run backwards on Saturday with minor changes.
2b. Are folding canopies and chairs allowed for the pit (same question for practice day)? Yes, and also motorhomes and big trailers. Canopies must be secured with weights. Things may be left at the facility overnight, but no overnight camping.

True, but practices are harder to get into due to entry limitations (no limits on Sunday). Some practices have entry priorities, the next event at El Toro may be one with the Pro Solo being the following event. Entrants to the ProSolo may get priority entry. In addition, oversubscribed practices often have priority given to members of the hosting team, points card holders or members who help beyond the required work assignment on a regular basis - as an all volunteer organization, we do notice those people.
