So a group of us are looking to get into autocrossing. Is it possible for the 4 of us to sign up and utilize one car between us at the events?

It is possible, but no more than 2 can be in the same group/class. Give us info about the car and we can recommend classes. Also, please note that we use real names on this forum.

Sorry...I didn't know...Can I change that?

The car is a 2001 Mustang cobra. I believe it just has a catback exhaust.

At a minimum you could run CAM-C, CST, or TO. The first two require you to have 200 tw minimum tires. There is probably another class you could run to.

Just check out the run order and make sure two of the classes you want to run are in different run groups. For example, if you look at last weekend's event run order you see that CAM ran group 1 and CST ran group 3. two of you could of run CAM during the first run group and two of you could of run CST during the 3rd run group.

Is this something that people commonly do? And is the only difference that we would run in groups with different class cars? Same track setup?

My name is Santi Rodriguez, for whoever is able to change it. Thank you for the information.

It's common to have 2 driver cars, which is what the rules are set up for and why you have to run in different classes. Yes, different competitors, same course.

Are there 2 classes I can run that don't require the 200 two tires?

No stock classes. If you just want to learn, then CSM is a local catch all class. TO (Time Only) is all cars (index by regular class) that can run any time of day, but no trophies or points earned. You can actually all run TO, but no more than two per run group.

CSM = Like what Rick said. Car can have pretty much unlimited mods but needs to be registerable.

Street Prepared Combined = I believe your car will have an index of ESP. Limited rules on suspension and power mods. But your car qualifies for it if you would like to run race tires.

Street Mod Combined = Same as SP combined but with more allowances

Prepared combined = Even way more allowance than any of the classes listed above.

Those would be the 4 classes your car would probably qualify for if you run sub 200tw tires.

The TO sounds good for us to get started and learn. We are excited to get going.

So I finally got the car ready. A friend and I are looking to come Sunday to do TO. Are we able to do both morning and afternoon? And Besides showing up, registering, going through tech, and walking the course, what else should I be prepared for? helmets?

I might try to come out Saturday to watch, learn and ask questions.

You can only enter a class once. That being said, you can then buy X-Runs, which are another set that do not require an additional work assignment. If you get really hooked, you can even buy more X-Runs, however there are a limited number of X-Runs sold per group. Registration can give you all the details.

Bring water and sunscreen, you will likely be working course and it may be warm. Take advantage of instructors. There is a separate lane to get in to get an instructor, they can ride with you and coach or drive your car to show you how it's done (highly recommended and does not count as one of your runs). A limited number of loaner helmets are available for free. At around 8am and the beginning of the lunch break there is a guided course walk by our Novice Coordinator, very useful. Also on Saturday, most drivers are happy to give ride alongs, just ask.

So registering for Sunday, I assume that although 2 of us will be using one car, we both register and pay the fee?

That is correct. You are registering the drivers, not the car.

We do have an option to split practice entries so that two drivers can split the day's practice runs, but not on Sundays.

Ok great. We just registered and are set for Sunday. I did notice that when registering it didn't give me the option for morning or afternoon. I am only available morning. Do I need to contact someone regarding that?

I just reviewed your registration. You are registered for TO-M Class (Time Only - Morning)....so you should be all set. If you let me know your co-driver's name, I can check their registration as well.

Since you are running TO, you have a choice of groups to run (there are limitations on the number of TO per group) and you and your co-driver can run the same group or different groups. If you run the same group, be sure to get in the two driver lanes in grid.
