New to me '92 MX5 Miata

Post by Jeff McRae »

Ok, second childhood car (or maybe third or forth, I'm pushing 60)

1992 Miata, stock engine. Coilovers front and rear, Zerek roll bar.

Considering AutoX, not sure what class I'd be in. Would like to run FM frame rails, but from what I'm reading so far online they may either keep me from AutoX (or put me in a category with the high dollar folks :( ) (Have driven Miata's with and without - on the street I can really notice the difference)

There is no rule that will prevent your car from being autocrossed, it just depends on the competition level you're looking for. If you're just starting, I wouldn't worry too much about the rules - we have a local class called California Street Tire, in which the only rules are that you be on 200tw tires and the car be registered for road use in California. If you want to get more serious you can dive into the rule book, but for now I'd just show up and have some fun :D

Adam is correct, but just in case you get serious, don't put those frame rails on. They will screw up any serious classing for that car.
