Potential Venue for SoCal/NorCal Annual Competition

There has been discussion between Cal Club Autocross and San Francisco Region Autocross about hosting an annual NorCal/SoCal competition. One of the discussion items is location. Currently, there is a site in the middle of the state that MIGHT work as a potential competition site. It is Minter Field Shafter Airport in Shafter, CA (just north of Bakersfield). A central site would be ideal because it is roughly three hours away from each region.

PCA is hosting an event there on Oct. 7. People from SRF are planning to attend, and we would like to see people from our region attend and report back on the site.

Hi, you might look at Kern County Speedway http://www.kernraceway.com. The Kern County Fairgrounds are in Bakersfield, its about as big as Pomona. They pitch their South P parking lot for vehicle use. There are several small airports around Bakersfield and Fresno, including; Elk Hills, Taft, Poso, Wasco, Lost Hills, Paramount Farm, Reedley, and William Robert Johnston. Fresno also has the Selland Arena with a big parking lot. I will be in Bakersfield on the 13th and BRP on the 14th, I can scout some sites that weekend.

Quite a few of us will be out there to scout the site this weekend. Definitely would like to see to others from CalClub come out. In speaking with the PCA organizer, they sweep the lot a few days before use, and the concrete is pretty good in terms of grip level. The paddock area used is paved (maps overhead looks like it's dirt but it's not). The runway used is 275'x3000' concrete with a couple of 50' wide asphalt taxiways leading to/from. In comparison to current El Toro, it's about 75' wider and a little longer than what is used currently.
