STX 2WD Tire

Post by Webster Jessup »

Rules allow for up to a 265 wide tire and a 9 inch rim, but 140 rating.

Any good ones out there.

So either 13x8, 14x8, 15x8 or 16x8 rim. Less than 24in diameter preferably.

Thanks.

The 225-50-15 Toyo R1R is it at 16 and under.

For ST/STX/STU tires the choices are
Toyo R1R
Bridgestone RE-11
Dunlop Direzza Star Spec
Kumho XS
Yokohama Neova AD08

Search those sizes. All are going to be taller than you want.....
A 255-40-17 is about 25" diameter...
Kumho XS comes in a 265-45-16 but its 25.4"

I know you said 16s max size, but you might also be interested in Toyos R1R in a 245/35R17. 23.8" Diameter.

EG Hatch

Think a 255 or 265 could squeeze on a 8 inch rim?

Steve,
Most of those tires only have wide widths in a 17 inch rim. I guess Kumho XS it is.

I want to stay with a 16 for weight. Lightweight 17's are not cheap and cheap 17's are not light.

Yup. I just had a 275-40-17 mounted onto a 7 inch rim.

This being a Hoosier A6 and not a 140 treadwear Street tire.
Sidewall stiffness may be different.

I think an EG hatch would be most competitive in ST rather than STX, have you added an LSD, or is there some other mod that removes that classing option?

If you are married to the STX class, I think a 15x8 with 225/45-15 Toyo R1R would be your best bet, I would be surprised if you could fit 255 or 265 under the fenders and maintain a reasonable ride height.

I probably wounldn't have a chance in ST. There is way too much competition for my newbness. STX doesn't seem to have too many, and not many that are running consistently throughout the season. I could have easily won STX in the last event. Larger brakes all around removes me from the ST class.

Ride height isn't everything.

There have been a couple of nationally competitive EF's in STX and neither went with bigger tires than the EF's in STS (ST now). And this was before the 225-50-15 Toyo R1R came out.
And the 15x8 from 949racing.com is a cheap fairly light option....

But, how would they have done with more tire? That's the question.

Cheap lightweight 15's are never a problem, 17's are though.

Is the R1R the tire of choice in ST?

our civics need grip but you should consider gearing hit and and power...

i drive a ST car in stx, and im on 195 toyos, but I tried the kumho 215 - 16 tires... pretty good grip but killed our power....

I dont think a ST car with taller and wider tires will go faster...

but i think you can take advantage of using a 15x 8 opposed to the 7.5 rule ST gets

and use the 225 45 toyo, i think a EG civic will do well with a good driver in ST though ... nate whipple had one and did well at nats in 07 i think. but should do well in stx also

but I am kind of slow sooo...ya haha

It would seem to be a battle between 225-45-15 Toyo's and 205-50-15 Re-11's.
The coming Yoko AD08 may well be a contender... Some would argue the KUMHO XS is a contender.

That's for 15" fitments.

Kevin McCormack tried a 17" Dunlap Star Spec last year on the front with 195-55-15's on the rear. He did well with it. He scored a nice set of 17x7.5 Volks on Craigslist. That was ST so he was limited to 7.5".

I ran 275's on a 9" or 9.5" rim on my Neon. But I had 300ftlbs of torque to feed them.

Will he stil be on Kumho's?

Pretty sad for the commitment that guy gave to a company to then get nothing from it in the end.

OK, so you want to do STX, cool. I still doubt you can fit 255 or 265 tires under the fenders without making a monster truck. 225/45-15 Toyo RiR on a 15x8 wheel sounds like a hot ticket. You could add an LSD and it might be a formidable STX car on the right course.

Sounds like the R1R is a pretty capable tire. I might to try them out then.

Using a 16x8 and a 265 tire is gonna add at least 15lbs as well.

Thanks.

The 225/45-15 R1R also fits well on a 9" rim... Would that fit under the EG fender? The 6ul also come in a 15x9.
