I need some good curvy roads to try out drifting the Cummins 3500 Ram!

I have a REALLY loud horn. Can I just sneek up on Farmer John and honk? Startle him right over the cliff and move on to the next target??? Oh, I guess this isn't like the video game.

This weekend, if you could Keith see if its possible to store a trailer up there the week before the tour as well as between the tour and pro. It sounds cool to do all three events.

Stacey said NO!

But she said that first about the Honda.... The Ram..... The fifth wheel..... The BMW..... You see a pattern here???

Has anybody done the Wendover to Packwood drive???

Trying to make a decision on Avard's suggestion to....

Run Wendover
drive the rig to Packwood and drop it off
drive to Portland Airport and park the truck
Fly home
rent a car
Fly back to portland
Pick up the truck and drive to packwood
run the tour
drive back to airport and park the truck
Fly home
rent car
Fly back to portland
drive truck to packwood
run the pro
Drive the rig home

Man.... I'm tired just typing that???

I think I'd have to draw a diagram just to wrap my brain around that.

It would be cool to spend a little vacation time, maybe go sight see around the olympic penninsula, Hoh rainforest.
Mt. Rainer.
Mt. St. Helens.
Park the rig and go tour the space needle and the boeing everett plant.
Visit Pike Place Market (but avoid getting hit in the head with the fish)
If you had a bit more time, when you leave Wendover head up to Yellowstone first and avoid Bison in the middle of the roads, then head on over to Washington.

Many years ago when there was a Seattle Pro Solo my family drove up for the Pro and the spent the next week slowly making our way back home through numerous national parks and sight seeing destinations.

But than agian if you can't get away for that long (or spend that much on gas) and want to do all of the events then it sounds like you have the right plan.

I suspect the way the Washington people get home from wendover is up the 93 to the 84 to the 82 to the 90, but thats just a guess

Yep 93 north to Twin Falls

84 west to Pendleton

82 west to Yakima

12 west to Packwood, this is a really nice drive through the Cascades.

Here's a map, although it has the shorter drive to Sea-Tac for one of the trips, and PDX for the other (as that's where we'd meet Steve/Stacey). The starting and ending address is where Google thinks Steve lives.

But have you done that drive towing? :) Your rig is even bigger/heavier than Steve's.

Yes and no. I have done the Interstate sections. 93 is easy. 12 may be a little steep, but the road is good and the shoulders wide, so it may just be slow.

Manly, grunts.... 6.7L cummins TD with Exhaust brake....

Bring on the mountains!!!

Of course, winding roads do drive me a little batty checking the mirrors for clearance. I haven't come close to getting used to towing a 38'x102" trailer.

Except for Semis? Or do they try to avoid accidents, even when they know they'd win? Earl? :D

Semi's don't give me much grief. On the road I'm as big as they are, just not as heavy.

I have taken the BAT on some pretty tight twisty roads and have not had any problem keeping within my lane. As short as Steve's trailer is, he should have no issues.

I did Wendover/Bremerton years ago. Left Wendover, after winning the bonus challenge (so I was there late) and drove to Vancouver, WA. Left the rig at my parents and flew home out of Portland. imo no reason to drive all the way to BFE (Packwood) just to turn around and drive to Portland and catch a plane. Find a place in Port or Vancouver and leave the rig much closer to the airport. Plus if you come in from UT on 84 you don't have to back track to Portland. This makes the drive from UT shorter, and less running back and forth.

My current rig is more height challenged than bothered by length. I think its 13'3". I really need to confirm that. Low hanging trees are trouble.

Damn Keith how long is your trailer???

In college, before my dad's team moved to a semi, they had Dick Landy's old box truck which was pretty darn long and we towed a 24' tag along behind it. That was a pretty long rig. And I towed it all over the country. It was unnerving because you just couldn't see the tag unless you were really turning.

Jason makes a great point.

I guess find an RV resort near Portland to drop off the trailer. Even paying $35 a night for 4 nights I'd come out way ahead on diesel and time and stress.

Doh....

That would cut off ~150 miles and 3 hours from your drive, and keep you off a mountain road.
