Mystery Solved.....The Story of the Missing Trophy

Post by George Schilling »

Costa Mesa, CA, January 30 - The apparent mystery of the highly coveted team trophy has been solved. I say apparent mystery because only a few people knew it was missing and those are the very people who had it. Sound confusing? Let me explain.

Our story begins last March when perennial team champions CASOC thought is would be nice to display the trophy that is usually under lock and key at a secret location known only to the person we’ve pawned the trophy, I mean, entrusted the trophy to. It was during that time that an unnamed PSCC member, in a fit of premeditated desperation, carefully slipped the trophy into a box and in the cover of daylight, proceeded to slip said box into his car. }:)

Who knew that PSCC was so desperate to have the trophy. If they had just asked, we would have gladly shared. :P

Anyway, back to the story. For CASOC it was business as usual. The trophy was somewhere, we knew that. Nothing unusual there. “The trophy is like a homing pigeon” said Tom Berry, the man who has cared for the trophy more than any other. “We never knew where it was, but it always came home to roost come banquet time.” After years and years and years of caring for the pigeon, the problem for CASOC was finding a team member who had the room house the "pigeon" and a willingness to feed it and clean up the.......well you know. :mrt:

For CASOC, their prayers were answered by of all people, a Reverend. In a moment of sinister sneakery, obsessed with an uncontrollable desire to get the ultimate team prize, a Reverend of all people, thinking there was no other way, unashamedly took our "pigeon" and cared for it like it was his own. Then, in an apparent moment of uncontrollable guilt, and of course knowing that PSCC had won control of the treasured prize, returned the trophy to where it belongs. For that change of heart, we thank you.

This is the true story of what happened to the team trophy. Anything the Reverand said at the banquet is questionable. Funny, but questionable.

Congratulations to PSCC for winning the team championship.

I'm still laughing. We had no clue where that trophy was. Kudo's to Curt. I can't believe they were able to keep it a secret til the end.

Pretty big. While I'm at it, I'll have them change all of the CASOCs to say NAMBLA.

I was wondering if GRA also gets engraved on the trophy for winning the 2010 Team Challenge?

For the team challenge we use an imaginary trophy. Just imagine GRA's name on it. :P

The real answer is since the team challenge was instated, we haven't purchased a trophy. I think we may be waiting for the old team challenge trophy to surface. I dunno. :geek:

GRA is the team that pushed to establish the Team Challenge and said they would look into a perpetual trophy. That action item sort of drifted away.

Thanks for the history lesson. Don't think I was around for that?

I am sure the powers that be will make sure this is resolved. Sort of a lot of work for nothing?

The team competition is just something that the clubs decided to do together. It isn't 'official' and isn't even in the supp regs like the one that the big trophy is awarded for. Not really a matter for the 'powers that be'.

I guess braggings rights will have to do? Thanks for clearning that up.

Or GRA could go buy a trophy and engrave a plaque on it.

Actually the Team Challenge predates the Top 5 PAX version and was done for a lot longer as the primary Team Points system. Some people started taking it too seriously and recruiting people from other teams or having people run in a weak class just to get the 500 points for every event. So the PAX system was devised to make it "more fair" and not subject to manipulation. But a lot of us find the Team Challenge more fun.

Not really. Nothing Rick says contradicts what I said. It isn't the official thing. It is something the clubs do for fun.

I think that would be a "powers that be" concern. Re-write the supps and all.. I could go and buy trophy but what fun would that be?
