What class?: 1999 BMW M Coupe

Post by David Barrish »

The car is stock under the hood. Including the exhaust.

The coil overs and shocks are not stock. He is on street tires.

What class?

Thank you.

I had a great time instructing during the third group. Drove a bunch of different cars including the Shoe...it was my second favorite to the Sasaki 86 Corolla.

Having owned a 2000 model of this car long ago, I gotta think the 315 hp version would make a very good STR possibility. Mike, isn't yours the later car?

Mike's is the early version, a 1999. The S54 powered M Coupe (2001+) is not allowed in STR, otherwise you would see them in STR!

'00 actually, but still the S52.

The S54 version would be fun, but with the longer gearing - and no update / backdate - I think I'd prefer the S52.

Ah. I didn't even know the gearing was so much longer in the 2001. I have driven a 2007-08 Z4 M, and remember being really disappointed because I felt the tall gearing ruined the car....plus I hated the gray plastic-dominated interior - the older car was much better looking inside, IMHO.

A proper STR build on the S52 car just might give the current darlings in the class a run. Kind of an expensive experiment though. Lots of torque in that car.....

So explain to me. It says M Coupe, the 1999 is a S52, this has modified suspension. If it's eligible for BSP, he has a much better chance of winning a trophy or even a jacket running against the 4 of us regularly running in this class than he does in a crowded, STR class. Plus were more fun and I will bring donuts. BSP is certainly a better choice than STR. Heck I might even put up a fith of Scotch to the winner or first runner up in BSP (in case I win). (must be over 21) if that would entice the entries.

What is your favorite donut? The 23rd is a GRA event, they are known for thier coffee, I can bring fresh donuts for the BSP competitors no problem.

I don't think a Mini qualifies for BSP, regardless what mods I make to it. But glazed buttermilk bars are dreamy :heyes: :heyes: :heyes:

If he can influence David to run BSP there might be a very nice donut in his future. I usually by in bulk. After all what would I do with the reminder of the dozen after I give a couple to David.
