To all those bailing on this Saturday's practice
I'm being slightly selfish here, as it's my club, PSCC, that's putting on this weekend's event and with a not full practice, our club will loose some money, but that's not why I'm writing this.
RACING, AND EVEN BETTER, PRACTICING IN THE RAIN WILL MAKE YOU A BETTER DRIVER, BOTH ON THE COURSE, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, ON THE STREET! Seriously. You're shooting yourself in the foot if you don't take advantage of this. And I'm not talking about the folks that race national events WHERE YOU WILL RACE IN THE RAIN EVENTUALLY, but just the folks that run only locally. I know we're in a drought right now, but eventually, we're going to have normal winters where IT DOES RAIN, and you'll run in the rain and get your butt kicked in that race.
Come out, get wet (you won't melt, I promise - unless you're a witch, in which case, stay home) and have fun!
And if you do man and woman up and come out, bring a few changes of clothes and footwear - a real key to staying happy on rainy days.
Your Solo Safety Steward for this weekend.
Bill
P.S. I'm talking completely unofficially here, BTW; just my not so humble opinion.

Re: To all those bailing on this Saturday's practice
Back in 2000, I first year of autocross I did a practice in the rain. That night driving home the storm kept getting worse and a Semi tractor trailer jack knifed beside me and collected several cars. The truck turned hard left trying to sandwich me between it and the center barrier.
I did some serious major league use the force voodoo in my pick up and made it through a gap unscathed. Still not sure how. But I'll give that day's rain practice a good bit of the credit.

Re: To all those bailing on this Saturday's practice
A bit late to the party but .... back 10 years ago, I longed to race in the wet. Racing in the wet is that time when the field gets level, as in, it's a lot more a question of who's behind the wheel than the car being driven. And no, 4WD don't necessarily have an advantage over 2WD.

Ha ! Okay yes that (Evo 7, for those who don't know), but also look at the 2005 Nat'l results in STX, where in fact a rwd bmw 325 could compete with the rest of the field, mainly WRXes and the likes.Jayson Woodruff wrote:And what per say were you towing to our events at the timeKarl Asseily wrote:And no, 4WD don't necessarily have an advantage over 2WD.

Karl, please review your avatar choice. Bill's car is no longer (blue / clean / salvageable, take your pick) and the current Shhhhhhnecker avatar of choice is Laughing Harlan Spector.

I can't find the photo now, but there was a shot from I believe the last events practice course ? ... that had this weird element ... two cone "gate," with each cone having two pointed cones, opposite each other. What was that element ?
Pass on either side or pass through option ? What did folks think of that ?

That element was a joke. When the start was being worked on (I think actually Saturday night for Sunday) and they were playing with ideas, one of the guys did that just for funMako Koiwai wrote:I can't find the photo now, but there was a shot from I believe the last events practice course ? ... that had this weird element ... two cone "gate," with each cone having two pointed cones, opposite each other.
