Port Of Long Beach Site

Post by Mako Koiwai »

... looks like it's going to be used for this:
A Long Beach-based company hopes to bring the "Red Bull Drifting World Championships," a motorsports event featuring "drifting" -- a skid-happy style of car racing -- to the Port of Long Beach on Nov. 15. The company -- Formula Drift -- is working with the Port to obtain a special event permit for a race on the paved open space of Terminal Island's Pier S. No details yet on schedule and tickets, but you can check out the Formula Drift blog or Formula Drift news.
... that's that huge paved area that we've seen posted a number of times.

Rep said that the Drift event being staged at Pier S is a one time event done in cooperation with the City of Long Beach. Seems like that drift organization is located in Long Beach. He thought that next year Pier S was going to come on line and wouldn't be available anyway. I think we should check in with him again after the Drift event in November. Who's our site acquisition person these days? We can pass on the name and contact info to that person.

that site is going to come online?!.. really?

there's other empty yards closer to the water, i wonder how big of a boat you can get that far in the dock.

i figured the site would be on the block to get retired, if anything.

Right ... they've been saying it's suppose to come on line for a while now ... which is why we should follow up on it.

It's a shame if the drift events can get sites that our club can not... It would be nice to try the port of Long Beach site to see how it compares to our other options. What we have now is nice, but....

I would think it'd be easier to try to rent the spot after another automotive event got to have their go there.

Provided there aren't any major issues.

I'd pay big money to see a car drift right off the edge and into the channel..
