2009 Lone Pine Time Trials

Post by Rick Brown »

Flyers are up on the AXWare site, separate ones for each day.

If you choose to pay online, basic entry is $40 per day, but if you enter both days it will automatically give you a $20 discount. Still have to fine tune the Mixed Couple entry amounts so don't try that yet. Also no way yet to pre-pay for the banquet or the extra t-shirts.

The flyer for more details and mail in entry is located here: http://tinyurl.com/lonepine09" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you go to YouTube and search for Lone Pine, there are a number of videos of what it's like.

Edit: Note that all convertibles must now have SCCA GCR approved roll bars. Factory roll bars are not acceptable.

Rick even before you posted this thread I already had received an e-mail receipt from PayPal indicating payment for 2 for $80 for an event. I didn't know that there was an upcoming event and looked on the calendar (Motorsports Z-that's not up yet and practice is only free if you work Saturday; and GRA event isn't until a month away. Then I realized it was Lone Pine! I received it at 2pm.

May need to refund $20 if it's for the same person. I didn't realize until this afternoon I had to link the events both ways to make the two day discount work no matter which day you registered for first. So if you did it in the wrong order you were charged $80 instead of $60. Fixed now.

Yes he did pay $80 but I think the treasurer should do the refunding. Talk to KJ.

It's actually pretty easy to refund his $20 through paypal. I'll probably do that and eliminate the bank entry.

Potentially dumb question: does Lone Pine use the same classes as Cal Club (i.e. is there an SK1 and SK2?)?

Sort of. Yes, we use the same classes, but since the turnout can be rather low compared to a regular event a lot of combining goes on. A class with 5 or so stands on it's own. Otherwise there is an indexed stock class, an Indexed street prepared class and CPM. Also the Beater class which is for cars you paid less that I think $500 for. UCSB often has a good turnout and gets their own class. And we have been known to create a class for a group that rents a car and they all drive. This is a very low key deal, things (except safety) are not taken to seriously.

Check with your brother. He has them on his truck, albeit in a girly size.

Some one was asking about Fun Runs @ Lone Pine. They didn't have them in '04 ... but we did do about 10 Parade Laps to help cut down the weeds ... which is one advantage of running on Saturday. Those parade laps got faster and faster!

Definitely a FUN Event! Note it's a fairly high speed Time Trail type event. Most of us back off just a bit from 10/10th AX driving. If I recall, the lap times were around 90+ seconds ... so long laps. I only found a few videos on youTube. The '08 ones show a slightly faster perhaps less interesting course then we had in '04.

Get up there for the Friday Registration/Tech (in the Dow Villa Parking Lot) and beer and dinner mixer. Very relaxed Fun Event.

GO To Honor Craig Angel ... his favorite event.

DON'T go over 80 on the way up! The cop told us that above 80 he HAS to stop you ... as he wrote out our tickets. :unimpressed:

Fun runs kinda depend on turnout and how tired people are on Saturday afternoon.

But remember, the course is 2½ miles long and you get 4 runs on Saturday (usually on 3 on Sunday so people can get on the road early).

Amazingly, street tires don't get chewed up as bad as you think - when I went last year, the wear for one day was about equivalent to a single-maybe 2 day El Toro practice. I guess it also depends on how badly you under/oversteer.

Just remember to bring bug spray! & spray liberally - from working course, I got bit at the exact areas where I didn't spray, haha.

AutoX ppl need to come out and represent! A road racer won SM class last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO1awzPurbE

My run (much slower, but better angle imo): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RZg2SJlDDg
