DC Pro Results are up

Post by Aaron Goldsmith »

In what world does BSP only beat STU by a few tenths and CSP lose to a car on street tires?!

A world where a "Pro" event is populated by mostly local drivers.

DC Pro sells out in minutes to mostly locals. This is good and bad. There's no law against it, and it's cool they get that local support, but it keeps out many top drivers and gives the results you see.

I got the word from the top pax STU guys:

Uphill start that hurt the lower powered cars, mildly slippery surface favored AWD, cars were never off boost.

A very fast BSP Evo driver named John (Marshall knows him), had his car break down, so he codrove in STU for a 5th place PAX finish. He certainly would have been much faster in his BSP car raw time. Plus 7 of the top STU cars were on Dunlops - lemmings. ;)

Part of the lack of grip can be attributed to all the sand Andy Hollis was laying down.

Junior Johnson got beat on his home court.

I originally was going to fly out and codrive at the DC Pro and I can tell you that people were staying up the night prereg opened so they could get in - luckily for me it was only 10pm pacific time, but my poor east-coast codrivers were up at 1am - and of course the registration system didn't work. :) If I remember right, it filled within hours of the SCCA staff fixing the reg system problem

and CSP has traditionally been much stronger on the west coast, so that's not a good gauge!

At the looks of things, there are a lot of AWD vehicles at the top.....indication of slippery/wet conditions on one or more days?

I still can't believe they put the 135ci into D Stock. If it stays there, I may have to reconsider getting a Mini Cooper S as my next car.

Doesn't the ProPax murder STU? Or was that a few years ago and the SCCA over corrected?

Remember this is east coast. It can look pretty in one frame and hurricane in the next.

Using Rick's numbers Sandman Andy falls to 109....

I'm think there might need to be a little more of a spread between STS and STU these days....

Of course, Rick only thought the non-existent magic tires were coming to STS/STS2...

Just took a look at the results and the times are barely over 60 seconds.....so 30 second courses....which may mean the launch is a more significant part of the course. AWD advantage off the line appears to have been important for a small/short course.

Soft on the other coast.. hard when you have to run within 1.7 seconds of Tom in his BSP car on street tires. Something Marshall and Christine have enough trouble doing in the same car.

(That's using the rick indexs of .858 and .830)

Ah yes I remember Steve and I wrote to the SEB about that oversight when you had a heart attack and the following year RIGHT before the 1st ProSolo, it was corrected by Howard Duncan, and I got an e-mail thanking me for pointing out that "oversight" :)

Hey at least they fixed it.
