Are there any Los Angeles area events?

Post by Cam Correa »

I live in Burbank California & I've never been to an autocross event.
I've always told my self I'd get into it, & feel now is the time so I joined today.

But I'm wondering where my closest events might be?

I just found this HUGE black top parking lot behind a Best Buy that looks to my untrained eye as a great lot for autocross...

Closest SCCA Solo events to Burbank are our events out in Fontana, though we don't have another one scheduled there until the night event in August. We do have a divisional coming up July 18-20 down at the ol' El Toro base in Irvine, but that's it for LA area SCCA solo for the summer.

come out and visit the divisional if you have time. you won't be able to get any ride-alongs, but you can see how things work and ask all the questions you want. click the CSCC-SOLO banner at the top and check out the links on the left for more info
it's only paranoia if your wrong

Tell us about that lot? Where and how big?

We use a lot of space! And we're always looking for more.

You also probably want to change your name to your real full name since it's used for Registration purposes.

Burbank Airport has lots of open space where Lockheed use to be. Anyone know how to pursue this?

Blanco, I live just a few miles from you. What are you driving.

Call me if you want to talk about autocross.

Well I think its considered Glendale or maybe Los Feliz..

I dont know for sure how big it is, but its HUGE!
Its not perfectly flat, but close & its a nice black top.

For those of you close enough & know how big a lot has to be for this, heres some directions.
( I'm sure its big enough )

From Burbank take the 5 FWY south & exit Los Feliz heading east & within a few blocks About 3/4 of a mile, you'll see a Cosco & a BestBuy on your left. turn left at the light ( Revere Ave ) & follow it to the back of Cosco & Best buy.

I suppose its an over flow lot.
But I've never seen it get too many cars.
I work in the Film Biz, & I know they've rented out the lot to us many times before.
Such as today & though wensday.
So in other words it is do-able.

Maybe if some of you see this you can tell us if it would work.
I'd take a picture of it, but my Camera seems to have issues lately.

I would like to keep this screen name because I am on many web sites on the net & thats what I'm most commonly know as.
I'd prefer to be consistant.

For now anyways.
Once I actually register then I suppose an admin or mod can change it for me if need be.

The one I'm considering autocrossing is a stock 1985 Mustang. Image

& when the best time to call you?
& what class do you race?

I currently own 4 cars though & am fighting myself from buying a 5th.

5.0L with the old throttle body?

I had an 85 1/2 5.0L Sport back in the "day". It was the sleeper car, with better gearing, lighter weight, and better exhaust than the GT's.

Any lot less than about 600' x 1,000' is just too small. We have safety requirements that likely keep us at least 75' from each edge, and we need enough space for the pits, tech, registration, timing and scoring and grid to handle all the entrants. As a reference, the lot we use at Cal Speedway is about 1200x1600 at the wider end and only about 900 feet wide at the narrow (West) end.

As for your screen name, you're in charge of your own setup, but bear in mind that (a) you have to register for events under your real name, and (b) if you have a points card you'll want to pre-register for the event to save $5 on your registration fee.

Join us when you can!

Correct, Its the last year of the Carb & the 1st year with the Roller Cam & factory tube headers.

Thats Blanco. Not Blanko. Image

OK heres some Pics of my other toys.

My Pre-Runner Bronco.

My Rock Crawling/Mud Bogging Suzuki Sammy.

& considering what I do with my Off Road toys, I had to buy a Tow rig. ;)
Image
I bought this because I got a great deal on it.
& it already had an air bags on it when I bought it.

To be honest I would never done the air bags.... but hey it was already on there & I must admit I sorta like it & think it does add some coolness to it.
Jeff Ringer wrote:the idea of autoxing in burbank is amazing
Hell yeah!
That would be AWESOME!

& lately I've wanted to buy one of my life long dream cars, A lotus Eroupa.
But they're pricey & hard to find.
I've also considered a 914 & or a Myers manx dune buggy...

The worst thing is I have no where to keep all my cars.
I live in a APT & have only one parking spot in the alley.
I park all of them on the street & have to move them all every 3 days.
But I love cars.

Don't know if anyone has ever looked into it or even if it's big enough, but the parking lot at Santa Anita racetrack in Arcadia seems like it would also work. I know that BMW has set up autocross courses there for marketing events...went to one a year ago. Anyway, the north lot is pretty big, but the south lot is probably the biggest. Also, I know the person in charge of non-horse-racing events there.

Santa Anita and Magna and well... Horse Racing in general is maybe not the biggest fans of my former boss, Dr. Gertmenian and our former role managing the Jockeys Guild....
