Lone Pine - June 5-6th, 2010

Post by Giovanni Jaramillo »

Per Renee's e-mail, I've added it to the calendar, and awaiting Rick's flyer, though Rick I believe you have access to add/edit Calendar items. Info is TBA. This is NOT a sanctioned event by the SCCA.

I think it is high time I did this event -- it is long overdue. It is conveniently scheduled the weekend just before the SCCA Time Trials event @ Autoclub Speedway. June promises to be a very sweet month. :D

Of course, it won't be in the Corvette, it'll have to be in the Miata. Are there rules as far as convertibles? I do have a rollbar...

I'm curious how NASA is sanctioning the event when there are no membership requirements... anyone know?
No, Mako -- you do NOT need to supercharge your new Miata! ...cuz now it's my turn to take it to the track :)
hmmmm... it is no longer "new" -- is it time to get faster?

Works fine for me (except the fonts on the first page are messed up).

What it's all about:

Yeah, that's a 2 minute, 40 second course!

There are a number of other Lone Pine videos in YouTube if you search.

Manzanar Air Field - May 22-23, 2010 pre-event site prep.

Post by Bret Norgaard »

I have had no word from the rest of the Organizing team as of this past week and Jennifer and I are sitting here ready to leave for Lone Pine this morning for the pre-event Site Clean Up. Is it still on this weekend? Where is the campground we are supposed to be staying at? Who else was planning on attending and how can we get in touch with you? We are ready to head out now but not unless we hear back from someone.

Thanks,
Bret Norgaard

The one time I was there seemed like folks were camping at the site ... but I don't believe there are "facilities" there.

Karen and I were going to go ... but I believe there might be a track day in our future instead.

On the weekend of the event people do camp on-site. But we (event staff and volunteers) are supposed to be there this weekend to clear the runaway of weeds, debris, etc and stay at a nearby campground tonight and Saturday. We wanted to get up there early and pass out the event fliers around Lone Pine this afternoon. Last year, it seemed that very few locals even knew the event was going on.

Bret:

I'm out of the loop also. As you can see on the flyer, Kelley is th ONLY person working Lone Pine. I know for a fact that Irish (Pat McBride) is going up today for the clean-up. The campground that they stay at is located in the Alabama Hills. Just take the road towards Mt. Whitney and you'll find the campground.

I've had onee-mail from Kelley telling me that she is doing all the pre-registration. I guess Jennifer and I will be doing registration at the the site on Friday where we normally do registration.

Hope this information helps. See ya in Lone Pine.

Hi I had a question regarding this event. Will this be like an Autocross minus the cones or will multiple cars be on the course competing for the best time? Are passengers allowed to ride along?

Thanks

It is a high speed autocross. There are cones, just spread out a lot more (except for the start finish area). View the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYzqu_SkuKw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Passengers only during fun runs at the end of the day Saturday (time permitting).

Why? I doubt it. I can't think of a reason why they would create one online or post it here.

Because I wanted to see if I'm registered for the event.

It doesn't fill up, if that's the concern.

I think my registration was never received, my check hasn't been cashed yet, if I show up on the day of do you think they will let me register for the event? I would hate to drive up just to be told no.

Thank you
