Re: 2012 National Dates
Ok, so Farmington, New Mexico is only ~750 miles.
That's quite acceptable IMO, although I have no idea what New Mexico is like!! Wiggy lives there is all I know.

From my past expeiances.. it's like Arizona's hippy brother, he sells dream catchers at the swap meet.Max Hayter wrote:Ok, so Farmington, New Mexico is only ~750 miles.

Re: 2012 National Dates
I've been wanting to combine a Farmington autocross trip with a trip to Chama NM where my mom and step mom own property. Looks like this might be my chance! Possible co-drive or tow out deal...more as it gets closer.

Re: 2012 National Dates
I've been through Farmington, it's less Hippy, more angry American Indian, and S-kicking Pale Face. The sustained recession has not been kind to the region.
Re: 2012 National Dates
Farmington is about an hour south of Durango, Colorado, one of the most beautiful areas in the West. Really worth a side trip. And depending on the time one has, Farmington>Durango>Pagosa Springs>Chama>Santa Fe>Farmington is a GREAT road trip.

Re: 2012 National Dates
I have only been to one event there, Pro in 2003-04 (getting old, cant remember, or I am blocking it out)... And at that one they lost half of the lot to another event, I believe it was the shortest pro ever on record. Even if they have the full lot don't set your expectations to high, but it beats two trips to Neb, and the Backwood experience.Max Hayter wrote:Ok, so Farmington, New Mexico is only ~750 miles.

Re: 2012 National Dates
Ken Lord is very familiar with the Farminton area, he's a good one to hit up for details.
We went a couple years ago for a Tour. Good people, but low population region and it showed. We didn't care for the generic buffet in the casino, but some may like it. Ken went river fishing after the tour.

Re: 2012 National Dates
Farmington was OK. The only event I have been to that after the event on SAturday they opened the course for fun runs. For those with trailers, there is no easy way to get there. After I-40 thesre is a fairly narrow road from Gallup to Farmington that used to be the most dangerous road in America - Route 666. They solved the problem by changing the road number
The area has lots of history (says the archaeologist). Ed is right that Durango is nearby and that is a great place to hang. I was not impresssed with Farmington and it degraded significantly from when I lived in NM and it was a boom town in the 80s and 90s
If you fish -the San Juan River is close and there are trophy trout. That was one of the mian reasons I went.

Re: 2012 National Dates
Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge railroad trip was one of the highlights of summer vacation when I was a kid. That and playing golf at Tamarron Resort.
Route 666 reminds me of Natural Born Killers..... Hmmm, how bad for trailers again???? Like 40 ft trailers????

Re: 2012 National Dates
Farmington is at 5400' elevation. If you're n.a. and going against f.i. competition, you may want to consider that in your decision tree for Packwood vs Farmington.
Packwood - despite the photos that make it look like it's at 7,000' - is at 1200'.

Re: 2012 National Dates
I ran there in 2004 in the H Stock MINI... and back then if you didn't have a class, you bumped up into the next class (no indexing).Mike Simanyi wrote:Farmington is at 5400' elevation. I had to run against a Supercharged MINI. It wasn't even close.

Farmington. Ugly town, great people putting on the event, small lot, but fun uphill/downhill nature to it, but VERY small lot....

I know it's early, but anyone planning on doing the Lincoln Mega Weekend? I think that's gonna be my nationals.

SCCA seems to try really really hard to destroy ProSolo.

Re: 2012 National Dates
All the National Tour events this year will have a street tire class for stock prepped cars. To show support and bolster the numbers I'm committing to go to one out-of-area Tour event (in addition to SD). It's between Lincoln and Colorado, and I like Lincoln, since it's a two-fer. Can't afford to travel like that twice, and besides, at nationals I'd have to try to find a co-drive in a car I'm unfamiliar with, since I can't drive on my Hankooks and be competitive.Mark DeShon wrote:Why not in September?Kurt Rahn wrote:I know it's early, but anyone planning on doing the Lincoln Mega Weekend?
