Glen Helen RallyX, Mar 31 - Apr 1

Post by Jayson Woodruff »

Attention RallyCross Drivers. The 2012 RallyX season is closing fast upon us and it's time to start siging up for the sophmore season of the very sucessful series.

Just four weeks away, March 31st and April 1st will be the first weekend for the Glen Helen Series. Saturday is an open practice day, Sunday is the normal championship.

Link to Registration (MyAutoEvents):
Practice
Championship

Pre-reg closes the week before the event, then prices go way up.

Tech and Reg open at 7am
Walking 7am-8:30 and at Lunch
First car off at 9:00

Saturday (Practice) Fees:
$10/lap or $40/5
Two free funs when pre-registered!

Sunday (Championship) Fees:
Pre-Reg SCCA Members $50
Pre-Reg Non-Members $60
Reg Day-Of $75

There's already 24 entries spread well over the classes. Now is the time to register so we can start planning for the number of entrants! You do not need to pre-pay to take advantage of the pre-reg discount.

For the Championships there are trophies for the class winners and medals for top 3 in all classes. And again there will be a special prize for top lap of each day. Additionally, at least $4 of every entrant goes into the prize pool for the season series (details can be found on the CalClubRallyX.com site).

Novices and experts alike are welcome. If you think you need it, instruction is usually easy to find, and we have some loaner helmets for free use as well.

Link to CalClub RallyX Page

CalClub RallyCross is also now on twitter for event announements and updates: http://twitter.com/calclubrallyx

We've got pretty good momentum from last year, so lets get a great start on the second season.

Less that three weeks to go to the RallyCross season opener. Watch out, pre-registration is half full already. There's lots of regulars I know of that have not signed up yet. To keep event quality up I'm going to be strict on the entry cap, so don't get left out.

Also, new this year the Glen Helen RallyCross series is looking for series sponsor/advertisers. See thread:

Can four people drive the same rental car, if two of them run in S2 and the other two in P2?

I'd like to, but it depends on the status of my real race car and whether I'm still working on it.

Heads up to all you RallyCurious lurkers.

There is only one week left to pre-reg for the Glen Helen RallyX season opener. And just as importantly, there’s only 17 spots left!

We essentially sold out the last RallyX, and this one has the potential to do the same. If you plan on participating, pre-register ASAP or you may end up on the side lines. There’s also a significant financial penalty for not pre-registering.

Practice
Championship

Here's a good representive video of the RallyX in action.

I hope no one was sitting on their hands waiting to register for the RallyX points event, because it is now SOLD OUT.

We'll likely be taking some standby entries day-of, assuming there's some drops.

Saturday's practice still has room.

Jeff Stuart and I ended up sharing a car in stock class. It had rained pretty good the throughout the night so the course was, ahem, shall we say, just a bit muddy. We had a blast. Hopefully, someone will post some pics. What fun! :gpower: :gpower: :gpower: :gpower:

Preliminary results are up. I'll tune them up later to include proper DNFs and show cones, etc. I miss added the # of entries on site, we actually totaled a whopping 76.

Find results on the calclubrallyx.com site under results, or direct here:

I've had my celebratory rack of ribs and now I'm going to bed.

Nice, steady camera. Is that your iPhone? Tim Aing and I did the practice the day before and the camera shake is really bad in my videos. Could have been the car as well, though.

GoPro suction mounted to the inside of the window. I was too lazy (muddy) to want to set up the other camera and my external mix, hence the crappy sound and no driver cam.

It was a fun course. I wish I had the opportunity to run in the second group when things were drying out. The water splash in the first group was fantastic and went completely over the top of Jayson's miata. Note to self - turnon wipers BEFORE getting to the splash ;-)

I thought that first group was a blast. Near the end, hardly anything on the windshield. For the first few runs, wipers definitely required. :P
