Pretty much the normal flip flop with new classes added...

Re: 2012 Nationals run days
Awesome. I'm there every day. At least I don't have to juggle my own car as well as the Junior Kart in back-to-back heats. That is worth a couple extra nights of hotel expense.

Not quite entirely a flip flop.... I ran on Thurs/Fri last year in AS .... and this year Thurs./Fri. in BS since they changed the classes around. There might be others.

Re: 2012 Nationals run days
So they are officially running RT* classes at nationals. Sweet. I assume, then, that they'll run RT at the ProSolo finale as well?

I didn't say total flip flop. Classes get flip flopped then some get moved back to make the numbers work.

1500 miles. 30 hours of driving (conservatively) plus losing 2 hours gets us there at 2PM Wednesday. Register, tech car by 4PM. Run Thursday/Friday. Leave after banquet...if sober...George Schilling wrote:I hope you're putting the car on a trailer and flying......otherwise, you're both insane1Kurt Rahn wrote:You'll see it, because that's my plan too. :gpower: :gpower: :gpower:

Re: 2012 Nationals run days
Will and Art did it in 2004 as well in the Sentra. Biggest difference is those were ST* cars. Stock class cars should be a better and more reliable ride...in theory...Kurt Rahn wrote:Mike Heinitz did it in his Miata a couple years ago. Re: 2012 Nationals run days
I drove your HS Civic solo to Topeka non-stop with the exception of a 2-hour nap at 2am in a rest area in Vail (and of course, gas and food stops). Spending $70 for a few hours sleep at a motel didn't make sense. When I sell my Civic, I'm keeping the seats - best seats I've ever had in a car (for general driving). Key for me on long drives like this are multiple liter-bottles of diet Mtn Dew and something other than music to listen to - I had 50 hours of Phil Hendrie in MP3 for that trip. Night driving is much cooler and easier on the car, the eyes, and the A/C.
With two drivers like Art and myself in 2004, it's even easier as long as someone sleeps early so you're not both tired at the same time. Proper ST cars on stock tires aren't that uncomfortable, I drove the Escort to Atwater with the big springs and didn't even move the shocks from their competition settings. The exhaust noise and earplugs were far more annoying.

Re: 2012 Nationals run days
I had some epics traveling in my truck that would put you guys to shame.
It was convenient to have a race car/support vehicle/hotel room all in one vehicle, but it induced some very long weekends.
Southeast Houston to Irvine with just gas stops is my record. Included a multi-hour delay in Phoenix where the I-10 was closed due to police shooting during morning rush hour.
112deg past Baker w/o A/C was memorable. So was the 'splash' back into my sweat pool race seat a 7hours later. Or the 'vertical' nap 3 hours after that. Or the lap top I was using as an MP3 player giving up due to either heat or vibe. At least it was only 100deg in denver that weekend.
Irvine to San Diego to Phoenix to San Diego to El Paso to San Diego to Irvine to San Diego to Irvine was a fun three day weekend.
Last year I towed the MX5 out basically on "Curt's Schedule" without too many issue except swollen ankles when I got home. Piece of cake.

In 2006 I did 22 hours straight to Kansas towing a trailer, not something I would recomend or ever do again.

Okay.... It was probably just a deer. A big old buck with a rack like an LA weathergirl.....
But for just a moment, it looked like a MOOSE.

So how does the national championship race work? Do you need to be there for all 4 days our can you show up for only your run days?

Re: 2012 Nationals run days
No need to be there all 4, but you need to arrive the day before you run at a minimum. Gives you a chance to get settled, check in, do some course walks, watch others on the courses (there are two). And cheer on your fellow CSCC competitors!Bobby Beyer wrote:So how does the national championship race work? Do you need to be there for all 4 days our can you show up for only your run days?
