Congrats on your trophy, Leonard! RTF was a small class, but the competition was intense.

My two best runs were Sat run 3 for 60.367s and Sun run 3 for 60.471s. This was good enough for 16 out of 17 in RTR. :o My first national event was a blast, but above all else it was a humbling experience. I'll be looking for plenty of instructor runs at our next practice.

Please feel free to critique these videos. I'll put in my comments of where I think I screwed up in each one.

Saturday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlAEKS_QjTQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I probably could have taken a tighter line into the left turn after the initial slalom. Entry into the box was too far off the pointer cone, and I think I could have swung out a little more to orient myself better going into the exit chute. Walloms OK. Went into the turnaround waaay too fast and just plowed through it on the outside line. This was probably my biggest time hit. Wiggle and straight into the sweeper OK. In the sweeper, back end wiggled a bit when I downshifted, but it wasn't too bad. I'm actually pretty happy with how I handled the esses and the final slalom.

Sunday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEPsgGX21e8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Could have taken a tighter inside line at the left turn out of the start. Slalom felt slow and a little sloppy. I was behind the cones a bit at right before the sweeper. The sweeper, straight and all the way through the turnaround in the corner felt good, as did the walloms. The turnaround at the box started out OK, but I broke the back end loose a bit, scrubbed wide and lost speed. Final left turn and slalom felt OK. I can't place it, but I feel like I lost the most time on the first part of the course, up the hill into the sweeper.

Edit: fixed the Saturday link. Thanks, Jeff!

I wore my Garmin Edge bike GPS/HR monitor on Sunday and I topped out at 163 beats/min! This is nearly my max sustainable HR when climbing a mountain on a bike (or a unicycle)!

Wow! That was cool!

As I suspected, on day two you completely kicked my butt in braking for the slow, off-camber turnaround at the top. I went from being ahead of you across the top to being way behind you at the first wallom out of the turnaround. I think you also got me on the last sweeper into the finish slalom. Nice driving! You need to sell that Miata!

Thanks! I wasn't paying attention when working on it last night - I noticed I swapped the audio channels and put #3 of 3 instead of 3 of 6 on one of the title cards. I'll upload a new version when I get home and post a new link.

Photos to come soon.

Will, that's a great idea! I have a Garmin of some sort, no idea if it can output a graph like that. I don't even know how to recall a peak after a session. Might have to look that up and bring it to El Toro.

Thanks! I actually had the lead briefly after the first runs on Sunday, but Morgan laid down a solid 2nd run that clinched it. If I remember right, 2nd through 5th were all within a second of each other at the end of Saturday, so that final trophy spot was completely up for grabs.

I suspect on day 1 your heartrate may have peaked by the time you got to grid.

How true. We threw new plugs in it and it seemed to be running smoother, so it was a mad rush to get in grid before the third runs started! :lol:
