Tom Berry! Another Miata course?

Post by Bill Schenker »

After looking at the PAX results, and seeing the first non-HP car in 16th (Ryan), I don't think you can say that this time! And nice 2nd place!

Looking at those PAX results. I can almost guarantee that someone 1.1 seconds back from the leader in STR would not be top 5 in overall PAX!

No offense Marshal, I see the same thing in the SS results.

The ST* PAX factors seem way off to me compared to stock and SP classes.

I dunno, STR has been all over the top 10 of the local PAX results for the CalClub and SDR events this year. Doesn't seem the index is that hard.

Naturally ASP and other high power classes are gonna jump up at a pro. High grip and open courses help too. I don't think the SS index is too soft. It's not our fault my crappy 5th place times out paxed you Max.

It seems that the ProSolo drag-race start would give the PAX edge to high-horsepower cars on Hoosiers (awd and otherwise) compared to the typical start into a tight corner or offset.

There is still a separate ProSolo PAX index, though, isn't there?

I'd say that cars that launch well compared to anything else they might do at an autocross would do better in PAX results at a ProSolo, and cars that launch poorly compared to their other performance characteristics would do worse. Consider that PAX is based on the particular weighting of performance traits that are called upon in a typical autocross course. In ProSolo, additional weight is given to how well the car launches. If it launches better than it turns, brakes, or accelerates from a roll, that helps.

Cars that seem to launch well:
AWD > Mid-engine > Rear drive > front drive
Torque from idle > torque at high RPM
sticky tires > less sticky

Power level is way down there in terms of influence.

Bryan, it looks like ProSolo has dropped the ProSolo Index and is just using Rick Ruth's PAX/RTP. There is a link to it in the ProSolo rulebook.

They switched to this a couple years ago (maybe effective 2011).

Thanks Bill.
But Max might disagree with you. A Miata (MX5) usually only bests STR when its a "Miata" course. Besides.... as you know....ALL courses are "Miata" courses! Silly rabbit !

Gotta consider the 400 feet of straight and the drag start when looking at overall PAX at a Pro - helps the power cars.

* Edited due to a failure on my part to consider interpretations of my original post that I had not intended..... :unimpressed:

Yeah, I did forget in my initial post that the PAX was not adjusted anymore for it being a Pro.

I have no idea what 200ft times would be for an STR car, but I'm pretty sure they suck in a STR MX5 :D

Dude, MX5s launch better than S2000s on Hankooks! It was soooo painful to see in the corner of my eye that annoying MX5 paired with me sunday morning pull ahead every time, and knowing the retard of the driver behind the wheel, it just made it worse!

Said retard regularly pulls 2.2 sec 60 ft times in that 6 speed MX5. Interestingly, my fastest left had a .699 light and a 2.6 60ft time after I spun the tires too much. I was pulling 2.4 sec 60ft times most of the weekend.

With Wilbur the Alien driving... And yes, he had his fastest 60fts before we blew 12 million Dbs on the sound meter. Will is usually close to the fastest 60ft in STC. He did get beat a few times by Ann Hollis. :?:

Now now, it was only 106.9+, according to the sound meter operator. But he did say he's never seen the + before.

It was like :o and I was like :? and :( , then I got  but in the end I was :king: while Steve was

The sound was described by course workers as "Rouseian" - sure sounded snotty inside the car! At first, I thought for sure some significant part of the motor was about to exit stage left.
