2014 Lone Pine Time Trials

Post by Bret Norgaard »

Hello all,

The LPTT Committee is planning to hold the 2014 event on May 17/18. This is the same weekend as last year and we are looking forward to making this bigger and better than ever. The Time Trials continues to be a special weekend celebrating Rene and Craig Angel's lives in motorsport and as a charitable event for the Los Angeles Braille Institute Youth Programs. Over the next few weeks I will be working on updating the details for the website and posting information and updates as it becomes available. Please plan on attending and pass on the invite to all of your fellow motoring friends!

Event locations are always a challenge to procure and all to often, retain. Here are some concerning links to a LADWP project that could, amidst other greater impacts, utilize the land that the Manzanar Army Airfield is located on. We will be watching this closely.

You really requiring Snell 05 SA per the flyer? Very few autocrossers own SA helmets.
I assume that's wrong as the registration page lists Snell 95 as acceptable. I assume that's also wrong. Certainly one of them is.

Looks like a change to the '14 flyer. I can't seem to find where Bret told me the changes to make, but I think that was one. Maybe it's from NASA, they are the sanctioning body. I'll email Bret.

And the answer is:
SNELL 95 is correct for NASA autocross, which is what they consider Lone Pine. Flyer updated.

Okay, so I've looked at the flyer and also clicked the "Online Registration Is Now Open" link. Is it me (it might be) or is it true that NO WHERE does it indicate the cost when you register online or on time. The only $$$ amounts I see are for LATE registration/entry.

When I actually go to register, I see $45 for one day and $90 for 2 days, which is the regular entry. It might be confusing since in the body of the information it talks about late registration on site Friday or Saturday, which is $65/$100, and doesn't mention the regular fee for online reg. So, yes, it's you (sort of) ;). I've updated the online flyer.

One thing for sure, one really has to hunt for a link to register. I searched the Facebook page, the official online page, and clicked on several links here before I found the link to register. There really should be more attention paid to making it easy to register.

Regged up for Sunday. Plan on running the Rally Miata, version 2.2 (all the power of a stock 1.6, but with softer suspension!).

With all your clever "aero mods", that thing ought to flip at about 80. :)

(you'd have to see it to understand)

I think pre reg was extended to today.

Think about coming out. It's good fun and good people.

I just finished my "custom" suspension install on the rally car. Not much time for check out, so let's hope it holds together.

It feels a lot faster than it looks in the video, especially when you are on the edge of grip most of the time. Thanks George for letting me drive your car!

You know I never looked at the speedo. Topped out 3rd and spent 2seconds in 4th at the fastest point. Probably somewhere around 100. The ZO6 saw 119 I believe. 8-)

The year I went ... running the opposite direction ... we were going into the slalom around 110 in an STI ... but it seemed like you guys had a longer run at it.

I like the Schew you exhaled on the last turn when the tail kicked out a little. A spin out there would have made a good dust video.

NICE!

When that happened, I was expecting four off. I had slid out to the marbles and right on the edge of the pavement. I was surprised when the car reconnected and allowed me to stay on the course. So yeah.....it was a relief!

That was my first run. Second run had a downed cone. By the time it was time to take my third run, a strong devil wind had kicked up and stopped the event. I was one of a few who was not able to get his runs on Sunday.

They have been up in a couple of places, including FB, since the day after the event. But I guess not on the Lone Pine web site yet.
