Crow's Landing Average Requests

Post by George Schilling »

The Autocross Sunday event on April 19, 2015 is in direct conflict with the Crow's Landing National Tour. Per our supp regs., those attending a Tour event can request their average for Autocross Sunday. The normal procedure is to inform your club rep BEFORE the event who will present the request for approval. However, due to the anticipated large number of average requests, your governing committee has voted to establish this thread as a clearing house for average requests for this event only.

To request you average for this event, list your name, local number, and local class, followed by your anticipated Crow's Landing class. This can be done anytime BEFORE the April 19. No further action is required.

Example:

George, I won't be competing at Crows Landing, but I will be attending—I'll be working as event editor for Solo Matters/SCCA. Does that qualify to get my average for the local event?

Working an SCCA National event should always count in my opinion.

Here's the reg Lauren.

Points card holders may request their average when attending, as an official, worker or
participant in, Regional or Divisional Club race or a National SCCA event that conflicts with a
CSCC Solo Regional Championship. Qualifying events may include, but are not limited to,
National Tour, National Pro Solo, and SCCA Convention. Attending a competing SCCA Solo
Regional Championship DOES NOT qualify. The Solo Board may grant an average for a
conflicting event not listed as it sees fit. All requests for average under 7.3.5 must be made to
the Solo Board PRIOR to the conflicting event in order to be eligible. It is up the competitor to
confirm his or her approval for their average prior to the event.

1) You qualify for your average if you are there as a non-paid volunteer worker.

2) If this is part of a contractual or employment agreement, you would not qualify IMO. I would argue it's a work related absence. But I'm not the final arbiter. It would have to go to committee for a vote.

I humbly disagree... I don't see the "non-paid" requirement you added.

If she was there with Lifestyles Racing, or ProParts, or some other vendor...I would agree she would not qualify, that would be a business absence.

But if she is there on behalf of the SCCA, (SoloMaters is an SCCA publication), paid or not... she is there as an official (or in an official capacity) and that is part of our definition.

...and if you want to get persnickety, it does not say entrant, it says participant. She is not going as an observing spouse, she is participating in the event at a specific capacity.

I call bullshit on the employment thing. That's not a job that's an honorarium at best.

If you get credits for working a Cal Club road race, do we start disallowing those now?

SCCA was begging for National Solo Announcers to help out with the Majors series around the country. They offered up some money, but really to help cover travel and accommodations. I couldn't make it work with my kidlet responsibilities, but I sure wouldn't have considered that a private paid employment whatever. I would have assumed I'd get an avg for helping the new increased focus SCCA is giving to not being the Secret Car Club of America.

And I would put Solomatters work right smack in the center of that new initiative that benefits all SCCA members.

If it conflicts with our rule, then change the damn rule and change it now.

I don't see any distinction on volunteer vs paid in our rule. I do know that many workers on the club race side do receive some sort remuneration, more in prior years than currently - so I doubt this was something that was overlooked in the past.

Thanks for the rule. Yea it's just a volunteer thing (doing it this weekend for San Diego too). Since I'll be there anyway and they were looking for editors to help with recaps and photos and stuff.
