OMG!, I can;t believe how much grass was growing through the pavement.

Is this the only event that is ever run there?

Sorry I missed it. Yeah right.

The 38th Annual Lone Pine Time Trials is history. Another great weekend, great weather and great friends. However, this year several of the KEY staff members were not available and put a little snag in the works. Those who attended had a great time and it was good to see several new Solo 2 competitors make the trip to Lone Pine. Hope you come back next year and bring your friends.

Thank you for the great weekend! It was hot, dry, dirty and definitely Lone Pine.

You know the Santa Barbara crew will be back next year and we will have reinforcements!

View was VERY NICE - especially for ppl like me who live under the rock of OC life, haha.

Despite some minor difficulties, the event was totally awesome considering the small number of people we had.

Before going to this event, I was concerned about all the posts (from what I could find) about the very nasty pavement that will eat up your tires & paint job.

I was even more worried once I reached the "track."

It was very nice seeing a few familiar faces; most of the people attending were road track guys/girls - they were nice too, though :).

Although the surface looked scary and dirty, the 15-20 minutes or so of parade laps & 5 timed laps (and another 2 re-runs for me) we got w/ me spinning out the first lap, my tires didn't look too bad at all. I'd say about the same amount as a regular practice at El Toro. Of course, I'm only running street tires (Federal 595RS front, Hankook RS-2 back) & drive slower than most people. No one else @ the event complained about their tires chunking from what I remembered.

The grass & gravel were fun - it was really interesting on the track - you can see the general lines everyone was taking because there would be no grass/gravel in that area; go out of line, whether it was a better line or not, and you faced the consequences w/ a nice lil spin.

One tip: bring bug spray, good lord those lil pests are hungry @ Manzanar Air Strip - I put on a light layer of bug repellent, should have doused myself in it - came home w/ bites right around the areas I missed, dang.

Can't wait for next year!

looks really bad, but it wasn't too harsh, haha - this is from the parking area, the actual track was a lil nicer.

End of the Day Tire Wear (Sidewall markings are from me not checking my tire pressures & running really low)
Tires survived pretty decently, no chunking that I could detect.

No official measuring or anything, but much better wear than I had originally thought.

It's actually 138 seconds, not 1:38, and if you turn you mirror sideways (or lower the camera), you will get better video.

This was my second year at Lone Pine and once again it was worth the 4.5 hour trek. Nothing quite like 75mph offset gates on a loose surface. :)

I had hoped to make it this year but, alas, it was not to be......some weird vibration in the car to look at first....so I didn't want to chance the longish trip.

Now with the loss of the job (anyone need a civil/project engineer?), I may not get the chance again. But we'll see.

Just let me tell you that I am glad the motor didn't expire on my runs, though I was a little disappointed that I did not get to make my last two runs!!!

The basic lowdown... part of the connecting rod decided to exit the block.
