December Course Design Request

Post by Christine Grice »

I have volunteered to design the December course, but I want to try something new.

Have you ever wanted to design a course but can't make it to set up on a Friday or early Saturday morning?
Have you ever thought, ugh, this course is aweful, I could do way better?
Have you ever like a corner and wanted to see it again? Have you ever struggled with a corner and wanted another shot to get it right?
Have you ever wanted to design a course but were afraid to try?

Here is your opportunity. I am looking for input on the December course. I'll find a crew, I'll set it up, I'll make adjustments for safety, but if you want to draw a course and send it to me I'll try to either use someone's course or take ideas from multiple people and piece together a course.

Here is a blank map of CA speedway, complete with the 25/50 ft keepouts for safety.

Here is a map of where the bad spots are in the lot

Here is the Roger Johnson course design guide

If you are curious, the course design rules are in section 2 of the SCCA rule book, but I will make sure any course meets the safety requirements

Share your course here or email it directly to me. Lets see your ideas!

Big shout out to Reed Gibson who took me up on my offer! He designed the course this weekend and set it up with me just acting as a consultant. I know a couple of announcers mentioned it, but I wanted to make sure Reed got the credit he deserves.

He also got to experience the added challenge of a Saturday morning setup and handled it really well.

Yep, Well Done Reed!. While I wasn't real pleased with my driving, the course I liked.

Yes, great job Reed. Enjoyed the course (although Matt might take exception to the placement of that 1st cone!).

Excellent course, Reed. 1st course, or 21st course, it was lots of fun, balanced, and challenging. Good job!
