Post by George Schilling »

Car Numbers and Class Letters Required for Autocross Sunday Events

It is the responsibility of each competitor to know and comply with number and class letter requirements. Here are some general rules to follow:

Number and class letters should be positioned next to each other.
All letters and numbers must be on body panels, not on windows.
All numbers and class letters must use the same typeface and the same color, and this color must provide adequate contrast to the background color.
Numbers must be a minimum or 8” high.
Class letters must be a minimum of 4” high.

***New for 2017, there are two options for purchase of an Autocross Sunday vehicle number***

The first, and most desired option, is to purchase an Autocross Sunday permanent number or points card. Points cards are available for purchase online here. Cost is $20 for each calendar year. Cards purchased the last three months of any calendar year will also be valid the following calendar year. A personalized set of rules compliant magnetic or vinyl numbers and class letters are inexpensive. A local supplier used by many of our competitors to purchase a compliant number set is jaycomvinyl.com. These can also be obtained from a number of different sources online.

An Autocross Sunday points card is required to compete for year end awards, Team Championship and Team Challenge.

For those of you not ready to purchase an Autocross Sunday points card, a random 6xx number will be assigned to you at the registration table along with a matching paper number that can be taped to your car. These will be large enough to be easily seen and compliant with the rules. If you have already have a permanent number on your vehicle, you may have the option to use a random 6xx number or convert your existing number by placing a one (1) and the appropriate number of zeros in front of your existing number to create a 1xxx number. In either case, the cost for a temporary number is $5 per event and can be paid at the registration table.

2015 brought about several nation class changes. The biggest change was in the Street Classes where all tires must now display a 200 or higher tire wear rating. With the exception of Super Stock Racing (SSR), the old Stock Classes have been eliminated. STC has also been eliminated. SCCA now offers three classes for Classic American Muscle (CAM) cars.

CAM-T - Traditional CAM cars 1954-72, 108" wheelbase, 3000 lb minimum
CAM-C - Contemporary CAM cars 1978 and newer, 100" wheelbase, 3000 lb minimum
CAM-S -  Sports CAM cars, two seats, 90" wheelbase 2600 lb minimum

Locally, indexed Street Classes are no longer offered. All Street Class participants will now compete with their national class, ie AS, BS, CS etc.
Prepared and Modified Classes will continue to be indexed.

Additional Requirements

All entrants MUST BE SCCA members. Non-members can purchase an SCCA weekend membership the event for $15 BEFORE going to registration. Those purchasing a weekend membership will receive a credit of $15 toward the purchase of a yearly SCCA membership. A yearly SCCA membership can be purchased here.

Persons aged 12 and older are allowed as passengers. An SCCA membership is required. Passengers may get a free temporary membership at registration.
