Hi Folks, it's time to ask for volunteers to run our next event.

This time, when the cat is away the mice will play...Many of our core volunteers will be at the Crow's Landing Pro Solo, so this is a great opportunity to really help the region. Even if your are first time volunteer; don't worry, there will plenty of support.

In order to secure the insurance we need the following positions:
Event Chair:
Safety Steward:
Youth Steward:
Chief of Gate:

In order to have a smooth running event we need following positions:
Course Designer:
Chief of Registration:
Chief of Workers:
Chief of Tech:

Please post here to volunteer.
Thanks in advance! :D

Oddly enough, I still have a Youth Stewart license. Which I have in case there is literally no one else that can do it just so the kids can run. If someone else more involved in that group can do it, it would be better. Otherwise I can fill in.

If you do Yutes Tom, I believe the only parents would be David Barrish, Robert Baltazar, Mike Nakata and Will Kalman. Robert, Mike, and Will are very experienced and can help with how we have been separating grid, spacing the karts, and the latest high points in tech.

Which is why I don't mind doing it. Everyone knows what to do. I just get to be the name on the form. But obviously I do take the job seriously and would just be the eyes for any potential problems....

You have to push those that know what to do to do what they know. ;)

I also check each kart briefly for the main safety items.

Come up with a way to isolate grid so we don't have to shut down.

Help the starter with spacing.

Make sure each kid knows how to turn off kart engine. And where to go after finish. Remind them to turn tight circles towards the course if brakes fail or throttle stuck.

Then its common sense Safety Steward mentality. I'm looking for dangerous objects near their path finish to start or in pull off area near start. I will sometimes cone off the motorhome if their path is too close to those bumper corners. Bad height for a karter to catch. And I've seen Robert "apex" the motorhome.

The robotics team I mentor just qualified for the world championships so I won't be at this event.

OK....I talked with Seb over the weekend and here's where we are:

In order to secure the insurance we need the following positions:
Event Chair: Randy Gonzalez
Safety Steward: Sean Fenstermacher
Youth Steward: Tom Tanquary
Chief of Gate: Kevin Pao

In order to have a smooth running event we need following positions:
Course Designer: I'm working with course design committee to figure out what the plan will be with most of the committee going to Crows. Adam is first for consideration.
Chief of Registration: I'm going to also work with the board to get the right people in this spot for Saturday and Sunday.
Chief of Workers: Matthew Gonzalez
Chief of Tech: Jason Swindle

And for all the other folks that have thrown their name out, I'll have the individual Chief's reach out to you as necessary to get their positions staffed for the day.

Thank you all for stepping up. We'll be reaching out soon.

I would be interested in "shadowing" whoever does course so I'm better prepared for another time around. Or if there is just an information packet I can read over for future reference.

Best to be read before your first course design. And then again after so the nuances suddenly make sense.

Useful pieces of info for anyone doing course design at CA speedway

Here is a blank map of CA speedway, complete with the 25/50 ft keepouts for safety.

Here is a map of where the bad spots are in the lot (not really up to date, but close)

Volunteer for course setup on Fri. once or twice. You'll learn a lot and you can pick the designer's brain.
