2017 Coneys—Autocross Banquet at Porsche Experience Center on January 27, 2018

Post by Lauren Kane Porta »

It's Awards Time!
It's time again to recognize our accomplishments of the last year as we come together to celebrate our 2017 autocross season. Be there to cheer on the friends you've been battling all year as they (or you!) receive awards. There will be lots of fun experiences, good food, and time spent with great friends, so don't miss out! Online pre-registration is required; there will be no walk up registration on the day. Register at https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/co ... cca-859436

Welcome to the Porsche Experience Center
We are excited to host the 2017 Coneys at the Porsche Experience Center (PEC) in Carson (located at 19800 South Main Street), conveniently situated at the intersection of the 405 and 110 Freeways. This 53-acre facility also houses Porsche Area West and Porsche Motorsports North America.

Breakfast Included
In addition to recognizing our champions and trophy winners, we'll also partake in a delicious continental breakfast that includes: house-made tea breads and muffins; bagels with cream cheese and hand-crafted preserves; and assorted beverages including orange juice, spa water, and premium coffee and teas.

Raffle Prizes
As usual, there will be plenty of door prizes generously donated by our clubs and sponsors, so don't forget to get your raffle ticket at the door for a chance to win.

Demo Laps
Following breakfast and the awards ceremony, you have the option of participating in a demonstration (demo) lap that provides a thrilling taste of the PEC track. A Porsche Driving Coach will take the wheel while you buckle in to feel the impressive power and handling of the car of your choice around the 1.35 mi Handling Circuit. Faster than autocross, these two laps take you around the perimeter of the 53-acre facility. Minimum age to participate in a demo lap is 12.

Demo laps are an additional purchase to your banquet entry (those participating in demo laps must sign a waiver upon entry). The price of the demo lap varies depending on which car you choose.

Simulator Lab
We will be renting out the Simulator Lab at the PEC for one hour following the awards ceremony. Racing on the simulator is included with your entry to the banquet (participants must sign a waiver upon entry).

Schedule
8:30 am - Arrival
9:00 - 10:00 am - Breakfast
10:00 - 11:30 am - Awards Ceremony
11:30 am - 1:00 pm - Simulator Lab rental

Registration for the banquet ends on Monday, Jan. 15. If you plan on attending (and we hope you are!) please register by then. There will be NO walk up registration at the event. The reason we close registration two weeks early is that the venue requires our headcount for catering.

Thank you to everyone who filled out the post-event survey.

As you can see, 90% of the responses indicated a very high (4 or 5 rating) of the overall impression of the event. So thank you to all our volunteers who made it so successful.

I want to address a few of the common comments that we received on the survey.

The banquet committee works with a set budget for the event. Within that budget is EVERYTHING that needs to be paid for: renting the venue, food, jackets, trophies, programs, decorations, etc. This year, the committee wanted to increase attendance compared to the previous year by doing two main things: offering better experiences for everyone (not just champions and trophy winners), and by lowering the cost of entry.

In 2017, I am happy to say that we increased the paid attendance of the event by 40% compared to 2016!

We chose the Porsche Experience in part because it offered so many great amenities that everyone could use: viewing cars, participating in the sim lab, and buying optional demo laps. While many people have stated they enjoy the previous venue (the Hacienda) and its food, there are also many within the club who strongly disliked the Hacienda, it's cold outdoor ceremony, and the food. With this in mind, we made our decision to try a new venue for 2017. In every event the region puts on, we know that we cannot make every person happy; we can, however, make the majority of people happy, and based on the survey results, the banquet was well received by most who attended.

Because one of our missions this year was to lower the cost of attendance, we chose the food we did with that budget in mind. It was a compromise. Different food would have meant increasing the cost to you, our members, and that was something we did not want to do.

In regards to the awards presentation itself, know that a list of things we can do to improve the presentation has already been started, and your comments have been heard. For those that would like more media/videos/slideshows incorporated, I ask you to step up and volunteer! Join the committee and help us with your vision of what the banquet should be. Take charge of these things if they are important to you.

Finally, in an effort to continue to improve upon the banquet, all members will soon receive a new survey that outlines more detailed questions on what kind of banquet you want, the price point, type of food, location, etc. for next year.
