FYI, an updated map of the amenities available around the El Toro event site is available on the Solo2.com web site. Go to the Event Locations box on the left side, then click the text link above the El Toro site map. Several hotels close to the El Toro event site are shown on the map. La Quinta is obviously the closest, Doubletree is next, then Homestead House, Residence Inn, then Quality Inn and Holiday Inn near Lake Forest Blvd and the 5 freeway.

George Schilling wrote:I won't be getting a hotel for this weekend. If you want a starting point for bidding, 20-25% less than Hotwire is a good place to start. While Hotwire is usually more expensive, on a busy weekend, they can be very close in price. In addition, when bidding Hotwire, you can see percentage of folks recommending the hotel. I generally choose hotels recommended 90% or more of the reviews. This would eliminate places like the Crown Plaza that charge extra for parking as they usually review a little lower because of the hidden costs.

Anyone care to share success stories for Nats?
I've tried: 3 star area 1 $59, 3 star all areas $59, 2.5 star all areas $45

No luck so far.

Hey Justin, did you get that deal bidding on Priceline? If so, can you tell me your bid strategy?

You might want to lower to a 2* bid. I believe Howard Johnson is a 2*. I got our room for $37 (2*)

We have stayed in all the star levels over there, and to quote Jeff "they are all the same"

...except maybe the Embassy Suites :)

Its fun to stay in the RV.... Especially, during those massive Nebraska storms.... Lightning hit a light pole in the paddock. There is still a Will Kalman impression left in the roof of the RV from when it woke him while sleeping in the bunk bed. That is so worth saving $37 a night. ;)

Given the length of time we are there (every day), I called and got the weekly rate. I Recall someone doing this last year and bettering the Priceline rate. Word of warning, football ame the weekend of the pro uped the rates 400%.

I stayed here a couple years ago. They had a weekly rate of around $220. The place was clean, but not my thing. Check-in was somewhat normal except for the somewhat unkempt appearance of the person behind the bullet proof glass. The room was pretty sparse with with bright blue bedspreads more appropriate for a child's room, towels the size of wash cloths, sheets and blankets you can see through, and tiny little soap bars that you don't want to drop in the shower lest you be forced to either exit the shower or call for help to retrieve it do to the shower's tiny dimensions. Although I've never been, I imagine a prison might have the same feel as the hallways.......stark, high gloss white. This Motel 6 shares the parking lots with an adult mega store. Other than that, it's a lovely establishment.

Priceline hotel for 1/26/13.

First bid @ 3* $42 failed. Added Redlands and bid $45. I used a Priceline One Day sale to reduce my actual bid to $38. Total with taxes, fees and a $7 credit came to $50.51. 8-)

I have never stayed here before, but the hotel looks decent. A problem with thin walls was reported on several reviews, but otherwise reviews are mostly positive. Internet price is $99 plus tax. Free internet and parking. Breakfast NOT included. :?

Thanks to Priceline for the $7 credit. :D

Thanks to Betterbidding.com for the information throughout the years. And yes, I used the link to start the bidding process.

For the weekend of February 16, 2013 @ AAA Speedway. Got the Radisson Hotel Ontario Airport 3 star.

$45 seems to be the number in this area. I have a bid alert set for $42 and occasionally get word that someone has hit in the Ontario area at this price, but I've no luck @42.

Used $5 bonus cash so my actual bid was only $40.

First bid included 2 areas, Ontario East and West, $42.

Added free bid zone, $45.

There are two free bid zones if you're bidding 3* and above in this area.

I liked this hotel when it was the Marriott, but have not stayed here since the change. One thing I do like is internet and parking are now free. The Marriott charged for both. This is property has a huge center courtyard with a good size pool and spa. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the railroad tracks.
