Hey folks, just wondering if anyone needs a roommate?

I'll be in town from MN for the SD tour, I'll be co-driving with Bill Schenker, will have my own rental, and don't snore or smoke. When I room with guys in MN, I've had more of them interested in future co-drives than ones who stopped talking to me. =] I'm a big geek, I'll probably spend half the time on my computer. ;)

Matt Murphy of Minneapolis, usually driving an STX 330i, driving a CSP miata in SD...

You need to go through Priceline.com, Name Your Price to find the deals. I don't think it will work to call up individual hotels and say can you match my friends deal that he got on Priceline ... but it MIGHT work

For Buttonwillow, we get the same price asking the motels for a SCCA discount as we do going through Priceline, but that's a very small market

Go to Betterbidding.com for Priceline / Hotwire advice. You should be able to get a nice hotel in the $40 - $50 range.

Ok, at the National tour I stayed at Sorrento Mesa Country Inn. My wife will be going to Comicon in July. I dont' remember how I locked into the Sorrento Mesa Country Inn. Not sure what geographic region to select. Anybody have the key?

It's in the Sorrento Mesa area. The name of the hotel is the Country Inn and Suites.

Jonathan and I are headed to San Diego for his Air Force orientation. Although he will be attending UCSD, the orientation is at SDSU, which is east of the 15 on the 8...so not so far from QualComm. In browsing this forum, I see that Hotel Circle is scary (although possibly less so with just an MR2 with nothing worth stealing in it). Are there pros and cons to the other areas? I see that a lot of folks choose Sorrento Mesa. How come?

Thanks for any and all advice you can provide.

Hotel circle is fine as long as you don't have a trailer. I've stayed there the last couple years.

The Sorento Mesa area is made up of business parks that the hotels in the area cater to. Things like free parking, free internet, free breakfast, are generally included in this area. That, along with lower pricing, makes this area a better value. The drive to Qualcomm takes about 12 minutes sans traffic.

Well...except that the reason that I'm not in Utah on the way to Nebraska with Eric right now is that I have to be there to sign the papers for his Air Force scholarship. (Yup, that 6'3" young man is legally still a child at 17.)

Thanks, George. Good to know...especially as I will be doing work while he's at orientation.

$39 is the magic number for the December 2011 event. Got the Hyatt Place, my personal favorite.

Be sure to select Ontario East, 3* for this deal.

Plus, there's no cost for parking. Last time I stayed at the Hyatt it was an additional $10+

No charge for parking. You must be mistaking it for another swanky hotel.

That's the Hilton that charges for parking. It's a 3.5 star, so just stay away from bidding those. I parked at the office building next door to avoid the charge the one time I got that hotel. They also charge for internet there. Hyatt and Aloft both have free internet.
